Posted August 6, 20241 yr Eagles News: Vic Fangio tried to get the Dolphins to trade for Milton Williams last year Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 8/6/24. By Brandon Lee Gowton@BrandonGowton Aug 6, 2024, 8:06am EDT Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ... Vic Fangio: I tried to get Dolphins to trade for Milton Williams last year - PFT Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio got to know Williams when he worked as a consultant with the NFC East team during the 2022 season and the linemen made a strong enough impression that he remained on Fangio’s mind after the Dolphins hired Fangio to run their defense in 2023. One of the things Fangio tried to do before his only season in Miami was get Williams down to Florida with him. "Yeah, I like Milt. Milt is a good player,” Fangio said, via a transcript of his Monday press conference. "He’s solid, both versus the run and in pass rush. He’s a guy that from afar I’ve liked that the Eagles have had. In fact, I tried to get us to trade for him last year in Miami, but [Executive vice president/General Manager] Howie [Roseman] wouldn’t do it. But I like Milt. Milt is a pro.” Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Johnny Wilson is earning Jalen Hurts’ trust - BGN Circling back to Johnny Wilson, it’s a great sign for the rookie that Hurts already trusts him enough to make a risky throw his way. Wilson’s touchdown catch also shows the value of having a 6’6⅜” wide receiver with a massive wingspan (99-percentile) for red zone situations. It was encouraging to see Wilson shine in an 11-on-11 setting since his previous highlights were in 1-on-1. If he continues to look good in full team drills, he’s only going to strengthen his case to be WR3. At the very least, he looks like he might be a rotational player. Training Camp Day 8 Recap: Another Encouraging Day With BLG - Go Birds Eliot Shorr-Parks and special guest Brandon Lee Gowton discuss everything that happened on the Eagles’ practice field today, including another good performance from Jalen Hurts. Ranking the NFL’s starting quarterbacks, and a look around at where others rank Jalen Hurts - PhillyVoice 7) Dak Prescott, Cowboys: Prescott led the NFL in INTs in 2022, then finished second in MVP voting in 2023. He’s up and down from season to season, but the Cowboys would be screwed without him. 😎 Jalen Hurts, Eagles: Hurts was arguably the best player on the field in the Super Bowl following the 2022 season, but he was part of the problem during the Eagles’ epic 2023 collapse. He must perform in 2024, especially while playing in an offense with an elite offensive line and one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL. Eagles Training Camp Notebook: Vic Fangio updates the cornerback, linebacker position battles - PE.com More 1-on-1 action now, this time in the trenches with the offensive and defensive lines going head-to-head. Josh Sweat wins on the edge to kick things off before Jalen Carter snares a victory inside. Jordan Davis and Cam Jurgens stalemate in the middle after a Davis bull rush. Milton Williams gets a win, ripping his way past the offensive lineman. Bryce Huff keeps momentum rolling for the white jerseys, winning with an inside move to wrap things up for the starters, but the action did not end there. Thomas Booker showed off his power with an impressive bull rush. Brett Toth put his strength on display. Moro Ojomo overwhelmed his opponent. Matt Hennessy used good technique stop an inside rush. Dylan McMahon had one of his more impressive reps of the summer, stopping a rush. Jalyx Hunt exploded into the backfield on a bull rush. Zack Baun got the edge and home to the quarterback before another Thomas Booker win to end the drill. NFC East Over/Unders 2024 - FTN Fantasy Cale: That line is a bit steep, but I’m still going to take the over. Part of that is influenced by how I view the rest of the NFC East (more on that later), but I genuinely have some faith in the Eagles this year. I see Philadelphia as a team who has a lot to teach their new players, whether they are fresh to the roster or slotting into starting roles. That’s never an easy task. This team, however, does have the top-end talent to keep itself in games against contenders while the rest of these folks acclimate. I could even see the team having a bit of a reverse to last year’s collapse, tearing through the back half of their schedule. If they can hold their own in the first half of the year, hover around .500 exiting October, then they are in prime position to avenge last year’s December Disaster. Why Saquon Barkley asked Jalen Hurts if he’s fearless - NBCSP Strange question. Seemingly out of the blue. But somehow Hurts wasn’t fazed. "Fearless?” Hurts answered in a mic’d up clip shared by the Eagles. "Yeah. Absolutely. You got some s— you’re gonna worry about but you have to check yourself. You either gonna pray or you’re gonna worry. You can’t do both. God got it. God knows I work too. Shouldn’t be s— to fear when you done already put the work in. I come ready.” Barkley seemed pleased with the answer. But why did Barkley ask Hurts that question in the first place? The star running back said on Monday that he recently read a book called "Victory Favors the Fearless” — full title: "Victory Favors the Fearless: How to Defeat the 7 Fears that Hold You Back.” It was on his mind and it’s shaping his mindset in training camp. Cowboys stock watch: The rise of the fullback, the fall of a veteran - Blogging The Boys RB Ezekiel Elliott. We never expected to see the old Zeke again, but unfortunately, Elliott now just looks old. Rico Dowdle is earning the starting job on the practice field, which shouldn’t surprise us, but even guys like Luepke and veteran Royce Freeman are drawing more positive reviews. It’s hard to imagine Zeke not making the roster given all of the non-football factors, including an almost fully guaranteed contract, but he may end up with a smaller share in the rotation than most have projected. ‘Things I think’: Giants stand their ground against big, bad Lions - Big Blue View In all the years I have been covering New York Giants training camp, which I started doing in 2008, Monday’s joint practice against the Detroit Lions might be my favorite practice of all time. The Lions brought swagger, attitude and the confidence of knowing how good they are to Quest Diagnostics Training Center. The Giants did not flinch. Before Monday’s practice against the Lions, the idea that this was a "litmus test” for the Giants kept coming up. The Lions, after all, won the NFC North with a 12-5 record last season. They are a team considered to have a legitimate chance to be in the Super Bowl next February. The Giants went 6-11 last season, and there are plenty of prognosticators who think they won’t even win that many games this season. There is also the impression that the Lions bullied the Giants when the two teams practiced against each other in Detroit last season. The Giants did not get bullied, or massively outclassed, by the Lions on Monday. Report: The Washington Commanders have pulled out of Brandon Aiyuk trade talks - Hogs Haven It was quiet on the Brandon Aiyuk trade front, but some smoke signals started coming from San Francisco earlier this week. The 49ers top wide receiver is looking for a big payday, and his team hasn’t been willing to match his price. He has been hanging out with his friend, and former ASU teammate tea, Jayden Daniels this summer, and talking about playing with him again, this time in Washington. There has been trade speculation for months, but new GM Adam Peters hasn’t seemed willing to meet the price of both the trade, and the new contract Aiyuk is looking for in the first year of a major roster "recalibration”. The latest report NBC’s Matt Maiocco says that Peters and the Washington Commanders have removed themselves from trade discussions (along with the Pittsburgh Steelers who balked at the 49ers trade demands). Raiders quarterback battle: Coach says battle still heated - Silver And Black Pride In recent days, there have been reports that have suggested free-agent addition Gardner Minshew has started to pull away from incumbent Aidan O’Connell in the Las Vegas Raiders’ starting quarterback battle. https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2024/8/6/24214367/eagles-news-vic-fangio-dolphins-trade-milton-williams-last-year-philadelphia-defensive-tackle-nfl
