He still needs a few more better players on his Defense. So with that being said, I don't expect too much from this teams Defense. Just be solid, average, and not at the bottom of the League.
August 11, 20241 yr My favorite part of Fangio is that due to what happened in his HC stint and his age, he’s extraordinarily unlikely to get another HC job. So if he works out, it could be a last stop type of situation, 5-10 years of Vic

Jalyx Hunt really surprised me in the pre season game, he played a lot better than what we've seen in practice. When have we ever heard a coach say a player sucked in practice but was good in a game? Lol

We've had 1 preseason game that gave the defense a chance to really tackle and we held the opponent to under 100 yards passing and under 100 yards rushing. I think people are downplaying the level of competition at LB. Baun didn't have a great game, but it was his first action on this team. I think he's currently the starter because Dean wasn't able to fully participate in the early OTAs. But White wore the green dot and then Dean wore the green dot when it was his turn. So, if Dean overtakes Baun as the preseason progresses, it will be interesting to see who wears the dot if they are both on the field at the same time. I kind of feel like this defense will improve the more they play together. I don't expect Fangio to emulate Jim Johnson. It was nice to see us using blitzes in the preseason, though. One difference between Johnson and Fangio is that Fangio may blitz an ILB or a DB, but drop an edge rusher into coverage. Johnson used blitzes mainly to bring extra rushers.
August 12, 20241 yr Jim Johnson is the only defensive coordinator I've ever seen blitz all 11 defenders at once! 🙂 But seriously, I saw him against the Rams when they had the Greatest Show on Turf blitz both outside DB's. Guy was fearless with his blitzes.

Okay there were some games you might say that to an extent, but I remember there were far more letdowns by Reid’s offense than Johnson’s defense especially in big games. I don’t count the SB, because the Patriots obviously cheated.
August 13, 20241 yr X's and O's, I don't think JJ and Fangio could be more different. Fangio is a base 3-4. He likes to disguise coverage, confusing the offense presnap so they have to constantly adjust. JJ was base 4-3. He just ran right into you; brought the pressure in your face. I know it was only one preseason game, but I have no complaints with Fangio's D. They looked well coached. I agree that Reid's offense was the bigger factor in those losses though. I also don't think Reid has improved that much as a coach either, he's just benefitted from having Mahomes/Kelce, and lucky circumstances.
August 13, 20241 yr Was JJ running the defense in the playoff game against the Cardinals when Warner was killing us with the three step drop all game? That last drive was murder, I really thought our name was on the Lombardi that year (edited for typo)

JJs defense always got destroyed by the short/screen game by super accurate/ intelligent QBs and that's all they did in that cardinals game is short quick passes to Fitzgerald.

Fitz was a man possessed that post season but I too felt we were gonna get it done that year

August 14, 20241 yr I don't know that the OP was referring to Jim Johnson's scheme as much as his presence and overall importance to the organization. Johnson gave Reid the ability to focus on the offense. He was a veteran coach and a respected presence in the locker room. Fangio is also older, has a long and impressive resume, and looks to be the Eagles DC for the rest of his coaching career. I think the defense is in good hands with Fangio. The Eagles are fortunate to have him.

I'm sure every Eagles fan lost it after the defense allowed the 8+ minute drive for a go-ahead TD.
August 14, 20241 yr I can't really compare him to JJ, but I love an honest, old school, tough, no nonsense coach with a really good scheme. That's Fangio.

I certainly did. It was snowing in London, the game didn´t finish until 1am, maybe later, and I had to wait ages for a bus home. For me, that night was worse than losing the Super Bowl v the Chiefs. And don´t get me started on the 4th DPI on DJax that wasn´t called Edit: I quoted the wrong post, meant to quote MFPoon on the Arizona game

August 14, 20241 yr That said, I am interested to see what our nickel and dime packages look like this year with our revamped secondary. Could be quite exciting to see what Fangio does with them
