Posted August 24, 20241 yr I had a Samsung 55 inch plasma for 12 years.... paid a bit but obviously it lasted 12 years. So gotta get a new one shortly.... gonna stay between 55 and 65 due to room setup. So I am leaning Samsung but any other brands worth it ?
August 24, 20241 yr I used to be all samsung and only samsung. But I have been loving the TCL QLED for the value and picture quality. Recently only been buying TCL. Unfortunately they seem to have gotten away from Roku and only seem to use google for their OS now. Its ok but not as nice as Roku used to be. Most recently bought a 55'' for the bedroom and sometimes in the dark room the damn thing feels like its blinding. It has really good brightness which helps with HDR content. You can really improve the experience if you run an apple TV streaming box on it, and get an atmos sound bar. I got a cheap 5.1.2 TCL soundbar for the living room from wal mart last year around black friday. I think it was $130.
August 24, 20241 yr The new Samsung's are a piece of crap. They have been cutting costs and the back of TV is insanely flimsy for a brand that is supposed to provide a 'premium' product. I bought my TV a couple of years ago now and I went with the LG OLED C1. I think they're up to the C4 now, they are really good quality screens but very pricey. I think the range above it is the G for their OLED's and they have the B which is a slight tier below it. If you are happy to spend some cash that would be one of my recommendations. Sony also make pretty great looking screens, I think the 8 is their top of the line at the moment (their OLED). Again they are going to be pricy being a premium brand, but they are good quality panels.
August 24, 20241 yr Also depends on your setting. Bright room with a bunch of windows, you want a TV with a high brightness or else the light will drown out the picture. Dark room where you can appreciate the deepest blacks, OLED will be the way to go. I am happy to settle in the the middle ground with a full array local dimming screen with tons of dimming zones. These days they have mini-LED sets that have tons of zones. Cheaper sets will have fewer zones. The more dimming zones, the better the black levels you can achieve. I have found that QLED (not to be confused with OLED) does make a noticeable difference in the color. Our first QLED TV went in to the basement for my kids game room and I was jealous. Now my bedroom set is QLED too. Living room is older before that tech was around.
August 28, 20241 yr Author Wife liked an LG tv she saw..... I could care less...... will it show the football game ? Yes ? I'm good.

I am Team Samsung but I've had multi-screen room setups where a 2nd Samsung will have cross-interference between controllers (especially for things like volume controls), so around 2019 I bought my first TCL QLED and it was great (with Roku). I have since bought 2 additional TCL Roku sets for other rooms in my house, but it seems like those sets acquired in Jan 2022 were already hard to come by as TCL was switching to the trash Google OS and anytime I'm in an Electronics section of a big box store and happen to see the boxed TCL sets, it always seems to list Google. I will never go Google! On 8/24/2024 at 12:06 PM, Mat said: The new Samsung's are a piece of crap. I bought some LG OLED in the 2019 story above when looking to pair something alongside my primary Samsung QLED, and the LG OLED was so garbage. They were only making like 2 model types, so even the "entry level" OLED should have still been a top-performing TV on the market and it just looked so sad next to the QLED. I did the Rtings and Youtube calibration recommendations and everything, and that gahdawful Magic Remote nonsene was the stupidest, most infuriating things ever. I even dabbled in a top-tied LED Sony in 2018 (before going with the Samsung QLED) and that tv remote I would hit up up left left or whatever on on the keypad to navigate the keyboard (to log in to things like WiFi, Netflix, etc.) and OMG-THE-F'ING-LAG!!!! I'd be 4-5 button presses in before the damn cursor on the screen started to move. If LG was that trash I'm not surprised they felt adding some knockout Wii remote was an "upgrade", but that stupid cursor would pop up and not go away even when you didn't need/want it. The Samsung OneRemote and their software is so seamless, instantaneous response. Outside of the TCL Roku that works pretty great as well, nothing else deserves a spot in my house. I don't care if them ****es is free. 2 hours ago, Steve 17 said: Wife liked an LG tv she saw..... I could care less...... will it show the football game ? Yes ? My TV is the C1. That means it's the first release for that panel. They're up to I think C4 now. The 2024 Samsung I saw is insanely cheaply made so have fun with that

August 28, 20241 yr Author I was interested in the T. C. L..... Then I read that they are banned in all government facilities. Just like the hikvision security cameras. I'm doing a lot of top secret research at home . . . . . . Like..... How does she fit that in there? How to get past the boss on level three. Which running back I should put into the FF league ? You know important stuff.

August 28, 20241 yr The google OS has likely changed over the years. Its quite alright on my new TCL. The TV is a little laggy in the home screen where you want to scroll to choose an app. And its slightly slow to launch the app. But thats moreso the cheap, slow processers in smart TVs than it is the OS. It seems the cheap brands (mainly just TCL and Hisense now since Vizio seems to have fallen by the wayside) will have excellent picture, but to save on price theyll skimp on processing speed and/or sound. You can easily add a streaming box like the apple TV, or possibly even the new google streaming box that was just released this month. Those things have really good processors and takes care of any lag issue in menus. Even at $100-$130 for the streamer your savings going with TCL of Hisense is still significant.
August 30, 20241 yr Just bought the (pictured) TV over lunch today. Have the 2021 version in 75" that I paid $2,999 on sale to get during 4th of July weekend of that year. Now I will expand to the 85" 2023 version for such a sexier price. They also have an 83" OLED on sale, but having dropped $3k+tax just over 3 years ago, and probably lucky if I re-sell it for $750... I decided the $1900 was more than enough to spend to upgrade my size versus dropping an additional $700+tax Samsung - 83” Class S90C OLED Smart Tizen TV (2023) Model:QN83S90CAEXZASKU:6548644 User rating, 4.5 out of 5 stars with 115 reviews. 4.5 (115 Reviews) $2,599.99
