Posted September 3, 20241 yr I think the saying will be true, only one that will be able to stop us is us.

We'll see, if it was as easy as just zero blitzing all day every D would do that as Tampa did that the first playoff game two years ago then the next season went to the super bowl then went 10-1 the next. So thats 30 games since that first TB playoff game for teams to zero blitz which didnt stop the Eagles O
September 3, 20241 yr I refuse to give answers on the grounds they may be used against us. It has nothing to do with me not knowing in any way.
September 4, 20241 yr I am more worried about how our defense will stop opposing offenses. I'm thinking we have a top 5 offense. That's the good news. But the jury is still out on what our defense is going to do...
September 4, 20241 yr I'll let you know when we actually see the new offense with the starters in game action.
September 4, 20241 yr It´s a great puzzle. If you bring pressure against the Eagles offense, you´d better get there because Brown, Smitty and Philly G can all kill you. Stacking the box with seven or eight on running plays leaves you vulnerable to play action. If you play man you leave some tasty one on one matchups for the receivers and you really don´t want to play single high safety too much. The defenses I´d be looking for to do well are those with a really good interior defensive line. I´d expect them to target Jurgens up the middle, especially on 3rd and long or medium. His relative inexperience might mean that´s where you can get regular pressure. You don´t want to trust in beating Lane or Mailata on the outside too often. Maybe the occasional delayed blitz from MLB would be worth a look. Disguised run blitzes could be effective. I also think you need to try and get Jalen off his stride and out of rhythm, make him depend on quick throws underneath into fairly tight coverage to limit YAC and force mistakes. All that said, I think the Eagles are going to be an offensive juggernaut this year and I can´t wait to see it.
September 4, 20241 yr Blitz blitz and blitz. Hell blitz every play until this offense can prove it can handle the blitz. And get after the C and RG until they prove they can handle it. (And that’s not me saying Jurgens is going to struggle but right now he’s unproven at C in the NFL)

September 4, 20241 yr Two years ago, the Packers contained Brown and Smith pretty good. And Hurts ran roughshod over them. Last year Hurts didn't run nearly as much. We shall see what version of Hurts we have this year.

Make them dink-and-dunk for short gains or make Hurts throw deep over the top, hoping to capitalize on a mistake. Hurts was actually really good in 2022 with the long ball. But he stopped throwing it last year.

It wasn't reported, but if you follow the Eagles, it was 100% noticeable.

September 5, 20241 yr The answer is simple. 1) Give Hurts little room for mistakes and 2) Probe OL for weakness. By stacking the box force Eagles to be one dimensional. Is someone on offensive line new to their position? Yes. Then throw various blitzes designed to fool this one person and get to QB. Constantly disguise coverages to fool protection called before the snap. Blitz, Safety Blitz, Blitz, and so on until Eagles prove that they can pick it up.
September 5, 20241 yr Don't know, it's a new offense . All these blitz answers are how you stopped last years offense. In 2022 hurts was actually very good against the blitz.
September 5, 20241 yr If I was the Eagles looking at what the Packers did with their defensive personnel over the off season and their new defensive coordinator coming from 4 years being unremarkable Head Coach at Boston College, knowing they had a bottom 5 rush defense last year allowing near 130 yards a game, and looking at our shiny new bell cow back, I'd run it down their throats,

And I think they will because I think there’s going to be a real push to try and get Barkley going early and start "repaying” that investment. Plus early in the year I think we want (and need) to get back to controlling games.
