I had a lot of hope with Fangio as the D coordinator. But his D got gashed against Green Bay. He needs to fix it, but I'm not sure if he can. On a side note- they DID save the Eagles butt early on, when it was 6-0 Pack. But they have to be better.

As long as the offense is explosive, and the D makes some key stops, they're fine. They won't get away with it in the playoffs.

They did a pretty damn good job of limiting the Packers until late in the game. Jacobs had like 8 rushes for 12 yards at one point. The defense was on the field for a long time in the game and that is the fault of the offense sputtering and turning the ball over. Overall, I thought the defense played really well against a high-powered offense and mostly limited the big plays.

Football is a team sport. The offense has to make plays not only to score points, but to keep the defense off the field as much as possible. In other words, they need to sustain drives and then make sure the ball gets punched in the end zone at the end.

This will all help the defense stay fresh and make plays

On another note, it's only game 1. Let's give it a little time before saying Fangio needs to go and the defense stinks.

I really want to believe the shiddy field conditions played a part in a lack of any pass rush, similar to the Super Bowl. Partly that, and partly GB has a good offense. Were not going to be an early 90’s/2000’s type defense sadly, but hopefully, they can be closer to what they were in ‘22.

They made enough plays on the night to help us win. 6 of the points came off of the offense turning it over too so that did not help them at all.

I'm optimistic.  I think it was a huge improvement over last year.  There is no way we would have won that game last night with last year's defense.  I saw good corner back play.  Good linebacking.  I saw a lack of pressure from the edge, but I also saw them slipping and sliding all over the place because of the crappy field conditions.   We need to wait before we draw any conclusions.

Until his last pass during desperation time, Love had 227 yards passing. With a sub 60 percent completion percentage. I wouldn't consider that getting "gashed". Plus we started the game making the D defend the redzone twice in a row.

They also managed a lot of RZ stops. It’s a new scheme, we got gashed by the lions on the first game of 2022 and look how that turned out

Interestingly, the defense seemed to do great with the short fields off offensive turnovers…but struggled giving up long drives.

I think the defense looked less helpless than last year.  I don’t think they are ready to be considered a good defense, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Had the defense not held GB to 6 points instead of 14 after the offense had back to back turnovers on their own side of the field the Eagles don't win the game. They need to be better in some areas but overall they did their job. Meanwhile, this thread makes what I just did a few hours after some Taco Bell look pleasant.

The Eagles offense gave Greenbay the ball 3 times. Considering that the defense did fine with the exception of a few X plays. Should have also had a pick 6.... Fangio can't control butter fingers. I'm encouraged based on what we saw last year.

They gave up a LOOOONG TD off a blown coverage and CJGJ would have stopped that if he hadn't lost his footing and they had one drive where the run defense went to sleep.

Fangio defenses often look lost early season as players get used to the assignments, it should get better down the road

Red zone defense was actually really good I thought.  That being said, they were terrible against the run and gave up some big plays in the passing game.

I'm chalking it up to a new coordinator and scheme, being on the road (in Brazil), playing a tough offense and being on the field too much because of all of the turnovers.

They have some work to do for sure, but I think Vic will clean it up.

I don't think there's any doubt that we'll have better LB and secondary play this year. I'm a little more concerned about the defensive line and pass rush. Huff could be a JAG, and if that's the case, we'll really need Smith or maybe Hunt to step up.

There were some plays that the eagles defense had chances to change the game.......

The first one being Nakobe Dean's dropped picked 6 chance......If he picks that off, the eagles could have taken a 21-12 lead with 5 minutes left in the half.....instead, GB, on the next play hits a big one and goes up 19-14.  That is a play Dean absolutely has to make.

The second was the fumble by GB....4 eagles around the ball and a GB receiver come up with it.

The defense is still grasping Fangio's scheme and it usually takes 3-4 games for the learning curve.  I think there is a lot to be positive about.

Overall stopping that team and holding them to only six points after two terrible turnovers combined with that sloppy field gives them a passing grade from me. Not to mention a few guys didn’t even play.

Too early to judge the D scheme, after just 1 game. Yet along a farce of the field that was in Brazil. Need at least a few more games to make any judgements.

Pass defense was much improved.  Love went 17/34 260 2TD 1INT 83.0 passer rtg.  The run defense was horrendous giving up 7.8 yards per run and getting gashed.  Now some of that is the bend don’t break nature of the Fangio scheme.  But I think the Georgia picks have got to step up and live up to the hype.  Dean and Davis are both inconsistent.  The only consistent success the Packers had in the passing offense was picking on Maddox.  How he is still riding the success of one season in which he merely flashed at times is maddening.  But football is still football…meaning your first priority is to stop the run.  When a team can run all over your defense they wear your defense out, keep your offense off of the field, stay ahead of the chains and play action becomes almost unstoppable.

GB 1-4 in red zone. Aside from the 1 miss tackle and a brainfart by CJGJ that lead to 2 Reed TDs. I ain't worried. I'll chalk those up to 1st game drama. Let's not talk about the missed pick 6 and we couldn't recover Jacob's fumble.

D played way better than anyone thought and really stepped up on those 2 early turnovers.

1st game out, I expected a high score. Their pre-season was light as a unit. Who's gonna take the weight?

Two weeks in a row and the run d blows. The pass d generates no pressure. Cant wait to see how bad they do against the hottest team in the league this week.

Yeah, I’d take that stupid sticks D over this crap any day. This is all scheme related. I think the talent is there but the scheme is awful.

The D was never going to be amazing this year, they just needed them to be serviceable. It takes at least a couple seasons to get all the pieces together to convert from a 4-3 to a 3-4. They don't have the edge rushers they need for the scheme and it has been really noticeable. Huff was supposed to be one of those pieces and has been invisible. Sweat is a 4-3 DE and is now trying to play the edge. Smith should be seeing more snaps. Booker has actually looked pretty good and should get some more snaps in the rotation at DE.
