Posted September 9, 20241 yr James Earl Jones dead at 93 Award-winning actor James Earl Jones voiced Darth Vader in "Star Wars," Mufasa in "The Lion King," and appeared in "The Simpsons" multiple times Quote Award-winning actor James Earl Jones died Monday, Fox News Digital confirmed. He was 93. Jones was known for his voice role as Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" franchise, in addition to "Coming to America," "Field of Dreams," and "The Hunt for Red October." The star of stage and screen "passed away this morning at his home in Dutchess County, New York, surrounded by family," his representative shared in a statement to Fox News Digital. Jones is one of the few entertainers to have earned the coveted EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) during his career. He received two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award and three Tony Awards. While Jones did not win a competitive Oscar, he was presented with the Honorary Academy Award by Sir Ben Kingsley. His career began in the theater in the early ‘50s where he earned the status as one of the best Shakespearean actors, with roles, like "Othello" and "King Lear" in addition to Oberon in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" and Claudius in "Hamlet." Jones' film debut began with Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" in 1964. He earned a Tony Award in 1969 for his portrayal of boxer Jack Jefferson in "The Great White Hope."
September 10, 20241 yr Author One of his roles that I always enjoyed was in Gardens of Stone: In the above clip where the Sergeant Major appreciates the 'Your wife' crack and decides to give the whole platoon a pass on the inspection, I actually had a similar experience when I was in AIT (advanced individual training). The Battalion CSM was going to do a barracks inspection, so for a week or two, the drill sergeants were all over us to get us ready. We weren't in open bays like the clip above, we were in 8 man rooms (4 bunk beds). Spoiler My bed was the bottom bunk in the back left of the room. The way we had to have our footgear set up was to have a display pair of everything as shown here: Spoiler For any other footgear, it was to go to the opposite end, in my case, to the far left. I had an additional pair of Nike's (the ones in the picture above were actually stolen not long after this picture was taken ) and one weekend at Regency Mall, my buddies and I bought chicken feet slippers kind as joke so I had those too and since the Drill Sergeant told us to put ALL of our footgear out, I put those slippers under my bunk to the far left with my other Nike's... lined up just like you see in the above picture. My room was the first room at the top of the stairs on the third (top) floor and like I said, my bunk was the bottom one in the back left of the room. Guess where the Sergeant Major began his inspection and guess who the very first Soldier was that he inspected that day? Yep... me. Keep in mind, to a new private still in training with maybe 3 and a half months in uniform, the battalion Command Sergeant Major was 'god'. So the CSM walked into the room and straight to me, standing in front of my bunk. He looks down at my display footgear (pictured) and then his head turns to the opposite end of the bunk where he saw these (similar to the real ones): This is how it went: CSM: "PRIVATE, WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE?!?!" Me: (Turn my head to look and in a dead serious voice I look back at him and say)... "Those are my slippers, Sergeant Major..." CSM: Smiles at me, turns to my drill sergeant and says "This room passes..." turns and walks out without looking at anything else. Drill Sergeant: Steps in front of me and glares at me, turns and walks out with the CSM As we stand there waiting for the inspection to be completed we hear the CSM walk into the room next door and yelling ensues and we hear wall lockers being dumped out and mattresses being thrown off of bunks. Every room being inspected was destroyed... except for my room. All thanks to my big yellow chicken feet slippers and me saying "Those are my slippers, Sergeant Major...". I actually still have them in a box somewhere lol. Oh to be 19 again...

Also apparently he had a very very nice gun collection full of rare items.
