Posted September 10, 20241 yr ‘Hey, you guys!’ ‘Goonies’ sequel happening with original cast: report Published Sep. 9, 2024 Quote "The Goonies” is finally getting the sequel treatment. A follow-up film to the 1985 cult classic about a group of adventurous kids is in the works, according to a new report from the Sun. The outlet reported that the cast members from the original movie are expected to return for the sequel. Several cast members have died including John Matuszak, Anne Ramsey, Mary Ellen Trainor, Keith Walker and Lupe Ontiveros. The sequel, according to the Sun, is scheduled to film next year, with a possible release date in 2026 or 2027. "The Goonies reboot has been talked about for a long time, but it’s finally been given the go-ahead to move forward,” a source told The Sun. "The team is excited about the opportunity to bring the magic of the original film to a new audience,” they added. The insider also said that since "the youth adventure market is on fire,” producers want the sequel to have a plot that will be well received by both longtime fans and new viewers. "The Goonies” was directed by Richard Donner, who died in 2021 at age 91. Steven Spielberg devised the story for the classic family movie, which followed a group of neighborhood kids living in Astoria, Oregon, who head out on a perilous adventure. Chris Columbus, who wrote the screenplay for the film, recalled after Donner’s death that the late director called him to talk about a sequel to "The Goonies.” "He called me and said, ‘You know what we should do? We’re gonna get on my boat, smoke pot for three days and come up with an idea for ‘Goonies 2,’” Columbus, 65, told Empire magazine in 2021. "I said to Dick, ‘Well, first of all, I don’t smoke pot. But maybe if I come down, we’ll have a couple of drinks together and sit on the boat.’ It never happened. And I regret that. Because I would drop everything to do that right now.” Most of "The Goonies” cast reunited virtually in 2020 on Josh Gad’s web series, during which Spielberg, 77, explained why there hasn’t been a sequel yet. "Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water,” he said. "The problem is the bar that all of you raised on this genre, I don’t think we’ve really successfully been able to find an idea that is better than The Goonies that we all made in the eighties,” Spielberg added. https://nypost.com/2024/09/09/entertainment/the-goonies-sequel-in-the-works-with-original-cast-report/

The Sears catalog is basically why I'm an Eagles fan today. Sometime between 1974 and 1976 (when I was between 5 and 7), while looking at the toy section in the back of the catalog, I discovered the NFL kids uniforms and of all 26 helmets, it was the green one with the cool looking wings that I liked the most. From there, it just grew into me becoming a diehard Eagles fan (living in a Redskin household about 10 miles from RFK Stadium). This isn't the right time frame for what I'd have seen as a kid (the Bucs and Seahawks are present and the Jets helmet is green, making this ad post-1977) but it's similar to what I'd have stared at for hours: Spoiler This is could also be something that I'd have seen back in the day and likely is exactly what I saw, it's either 1974 or 1975, since the Eagles helmet is 1974-era Kelly Green, the Jets helmet is white and both the Bucs and Seahawks aren't present: Spoiler I also really liked the Chargers helmet, so as a little kid, I had 2 favorite teams. One NFC one AFC. By the time I was around 10 (1979), I decided that having two favorite teams was stupid and dropped the Chargers. I really didn't follow them anyway. I just liked the helmet.

I remember being in a Sears at a mall (Landover Mall) which is actually gone now and it's location is only about a mile (or less) from where FedEx Field is now, when I first saw that Bengals helmet. I was confused because I had no idea that they changed it.
