You know, it would have taken One Eyed Willie’s crew a long time to build that skeleton organ.

Not only that, but to make it so that it would work so many years later.

The original movie is nothing but a minimum of three characters at a time trying to yell overtop of one another. Movie is a 3/10 at best.

GTFO

I've been putting my son (12 year old) through past film education. We watched Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Princess Bride, others recently.

They have elaborate set pieces meant for the fun of the movie, they didn't take it that serious. Lucas, Spielberg and others grew up on movies that were impressive to them to just see fun action, people didn't put that much thought into the realism or breaking down how something is not really possible. It was fantasy and meant to enjoy a visual spectacle on the big screen, because everyone had small square TVs at home.

Ah, the classics.  I’ve had them watch Airplane and Spaceballs.  Not their cup of tea, but at least I can quote those movies around them now and get a good groan from them.

Airplane is a favorite, used to watch it with my Dad (RIP) all the time. Over Christmas break I watched that plus some other old favorites, was still LMAO.

Last weekend my son said "Can we watch more recent movies? The older movies with the older graphics (special effects) are cool but I want something more modern." I said ok no problem, then he said "Yeah not something older like from the 2010s."

:o

Boy, the 2010s, old?

I keep wondering when is it appropriate to show them movies like Happy Gilmore.  I’ve shown them small clips of Team America.  I cant think of really funny movies from the 2020s that’s a must watch yet.

For my son's humor, he really liked Jack Black in School of Rock. Normally we're doing action, comic, fantasy. We just did Raiders, will go through the Indiana Jones movies. Will do Harry Potter and LOTR this year too.

That’s the life.  We tried LOTR, but my kids couldn’t stay focused.  May try again in a year or two.  They were 11/10 at the time.

Weird comment.

He reads a lot. He actually likes reading the books after the movie to learn more. He's reading the Wingfeather fantasy series right now.

And if they like that, try going even further back with It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

Goonies never say die!

Never saw the first one

It's officially official

The Princess Bride

On my High School graduation day (a Friday, June 5th of 1987), all my Sr. Class had to do was show up at the school for a class picture (all 10 of us). Then we were done. So I and two of my best friends went to the movies. It was either "The Color of Money" or "Soul Man", both of which were a year old by then but I forget which one it was that afternoon.

Before the movie, I filled out a job application and while we were in the movie, they'd already called my house to ask me to come in for an interview (to be an usher).

The most fun job I've ever had. I got paid to watch movies and the summer of 1987 had some good, fun movies. The Princess Bride was one of them. My friends and I had seen it (and other movies), so many times standing in the back of the theater that we could walk around and recite dialog word for word lol.

The Princess Bride always takes me back to the summer of 1987... though it wasn't released until October, it still invokes memories of that summer.
