September 11, 20241 yr Beyond great starters...Our offensive line backups are a thin group. So it does suck to loose a 6th round pick to another team. But LA had only 1 healthy starter on offensive line at Game 1...so I can understand their desperation.

I would have waived Bradberry and kept McMahon on cut down day I think this was one of those roll of the dice situations where Howie thought he'd get McMahon successfully through waivers (check) and then be able to safely stash him on the practice squad (fail) to be called up as needed this year thinking he isn't ready to play at this level yet.
September 11, 20241 yr I wouldn't be surprised if McMahon starts againts the Eagles later this season. Rams have injury problems on the OL. They apparently started a guy at center that never played there before. He looked pretty good against the Lions, but I'm not sure if things are settled. They might want to move him back to the LG position.
September 11, 20241 yr They had the opportunity to have McMahon fill Bradberry's spot. I believe that teams can protect up to 4 PS players each week. They had the opportunity to do that. I liked McMahon as well, but this a deep and talented roster. They can't keep everyone.
September 11, 20241 yr For what it’s worth, McMahon didn’t travel to Brazil with the team. More than a couple of practice squad did. It’s possible he wasn’t as high on their pecking order as many Eagles fans would have thought he was. We really don’t—and won’t — know. I’m disappointed, but the fact that they chose Oren Burks to fill the roster spot when they put Bradberry on IR and cleared a spot kinda says something. He wasn’t #54.

September 11, 20241 yr Cam Jurgens is only 25 years old and people are already mad because we didn't continue to groom his replacement for when he decides to hang'em up.

McMahon was listed as center, but he could have become a backup Guard with time. It sucks to loose a 6th round pick by being poached by another team. Now it is our turn to poach some other team for OL, or DE. ;))

I don't mind developing a guy at a position of future need (like when we drafted Mailata knowing JP was old). As for guards, the Eagles like bigger bodies there. McMahon didn't do one thing to really get us so excited that losing him hurts.

Who will play center if the starter goes down? The starting guard. And if we have a guard moving to play center, than why the F we waisted a 6th round pick on the backup center????, when we could have drafted a backup guard? To me 6th round prospect is not trash.

Who did he beat out to justify keeping him? 6th rd pick or not, it's not changing the plan if Jurgens gets hurt. There's always a chance a guy like that comes back later. I mean, he won't be starting anytime soon for the rams, so they may eventually cut him like we did and try to get him back on their PS. From there, we could pluck him back if injuries put us in a bind, but right now, there are probably better options available if the need arises.

You can rationalize however you like, but he did ok during camp, and the Eagles thought enough of him to sign him to the PC. Not sure who our backup center is.

We did draft a backup guard in the 5th round - and he very well may be the backup at center. Most teams have lower round draft picks stashed on the PS. It sucks that he got plucked, but there was little the team could have done.

Most teams have lower round draft picks stashed on the PS. It sucks that he got plucked, but there was little the team could have done. The thing is, a PS player isn't going to come into a game they weren't elevated for. So If Jurgens gets hurt in a game, it's unlikely we would have elevated McMahon if he was here for that game. So obviously the coaches have a backup plan in the players that are active for the game. We all know Dickerson was originally drafted to eventually replace Kelce at C, but he had an opportunity to fill a need a LG and hasn't looked back. He can slide over in a pinch, but that may not be the plan. The Eagles are certainly giving somebody that will be active on game day some reps at center for that emergency scenario. But if Jurgens has to miss extended time, we know Toth has gotten a lot of (practice) work at center the last couple years here and Driscoll comes back to the PS after getting work at center in Miami. In the end, we still have backup centers on the PS, so it's not the end of the world.
