AJ Brown injury update: Eagles star not practicing. Who will they turn to vs Falcons?

PHILADELPHIA − The Eagles are hoping A.J. Brown will be able to play Monday night after suffering a hamstring injury in practice Friday.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said Brown "got a little tight in practice, and we'll see how that goes."

Then he added: "We took it a little bit precautionary yesterday. We'll probably be the same way (Saturday)."

Brown did not practice Saturday, leaving his status for Monday in question.

Still, Brown is a big part of the Eagles' offense. He has had two straight seasons of more than 1,400 yards receiving, and he had 5 catches for 119 yards in the Eagles' 34-29 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 6.

If he can't play or is limited Monday against the Falcons, the Eagles will likely turn to Jahan Dotson, whom they traded for Aug. 22 to serve as the third wide receiver. Dotson, the Commanders' first-round pick in 2022, did not have a catch against the Packers.

But Sirianni said he'd be ready if called upon.

"He's worked his butt off," Sirianni said. "He's obviously a very talented player. We'll see how that goes. I know the guys are ready when they're called upon."

Sirianni said that would be true of the other wide receivers in rookie Johnny Wilson and Britain Covey, who also serves as the punt returner.

"Everybody will be ready to go if need be," he said.

Dotson will likely get more looks but he is new and still learning the offense.  Maybe we see more of Wilson on the outside and some snaps for Covey.  Shipley could get some looks in the passing game too. Wouldn’t be opposed to a run heavy game plan though.

EDIT: scratch that about Wilson ... he has also been ruled out with a hammy

Well he’s got a chance to show why we traded a 3rd round pick for him. I’d guess he’ll play mostly on the outside and Covey / Campbell will play in the slot?

I wonder if we won't see more of the two rb back field with Shipley and Saquon. The RB's might get more receptions this week.

Run the ball, give Jalen an extra option out of the backfield and hope to open things up a little for Smith and Dotson? Control the clock and limit the Falcons secondary a little.

Britain Covey has shown he's a reliable player.  I hope he gets some time with the offense this game.
