This sack took 3.3 seconds: Most QBs' average time to throw is less than that. If you look at the snap, Cousins is already 5 yards away before the ball is snapped and after the snap he backs up 3.5 more yards. These stats may be stupid to you, but they add context. That M. Williams sack was pretty fast. About the only way to be faster than that is to be completely unblocked. The fastest sacks each season will be an unblocked pass rusher that had momentum toward the LOS before the snap and that will usually be around 1.5 - 2 seconds. So the only real way to increase sacks is to force the other team's QB to hold the ball. Coming off a bad season opener, Cousins wasn't taking many chances last week. My point is we’re giving the QB too much time to throw. You’d have to be blind if you don’t see that. I don’t need a stat to tell me we’re getting close to him.

At times, yes, but the average time to throw for Love in week 1 was 2.8 seconds and the average time to throw for Cousins in week 2 was 2.93 seconds. Compare that to the 3.3 seconds it took Williams to get the sack (which was very quick) and it's very hard to get sacks. Since those time to throw numbers are averages, there are plays where the QB holds the ball longer and some where he gets rid of it even quicker. You want the coverage to force the QB to hold the ball longer and then obviously, you want the pass rushers to win that assignment. In games where we've had as many lead changes as we've seen the last two weeks, we just aren't putting the opposing QBs in situations where they need to hold the ball longer.
