Winning the division…it’s a 2 horse race. So it’s possible. But you don’t bet on a horse than is 2-9 in 11 games…so I’d put money on Dallas. This call can't be made 2 games into the season. Atlanta were the hot tip to win the NFC South and they are supposed to be a good team before everyone jumped off after last weeks bad loss to the Steelers. The Packers are a quality team and they handled them pretty well with Love at QB up until the Hail Mary The team has a 2 new coordinators and it is going to take some time to gel through the season. There are a ton of positive signs, even though the D ished the bed on that last drive they have looked better than last year and they have held up pretty well in the RZ for two games. They have a couple of tough games leading into their bye and we will have a better idea of where they are at post the Benglas game.

What people forget is at the beginning of last season the defense was at the middle of the pack until they fell off late. Basically the Eagles defense (just like last season) is currently in the middle of the pack. New coordinators, but we expect this all just to work out by the end of the season? If this team doesn’t stop acting like the team from last year they might implode by October. Seriously their next five games are the Saints, Bucs, Browns, Giants, and Bengals albeit not in that order. How many wins do you realistically see there? I’ll add this team has basically been playing some version of Fangio’s defense since Gannon was here so calling him a new coordinator isn’t completely accurate.
September 18, 20241 yr If they won four of those five, a lot will be forgiven. All are winnable, but I would expect the Bengals, Saints and Bucs to all be competitive. If they lose three or more, and that stretch includes a loss to either the Browns or Giants (or, God forbid, both) then I think it´s time to start yelling. If they lose two, then we´re still an unknown quantity and will be sitting at 4-3. It´s going to be an interesting season. At the moment the team is like Forrest Gump´s box of chocolates.

I don’t know if I’m not sure what I’m going to get from this team, because right now this team sure does look a lot like what we saw from them last season. Even when they won last year it didn’t look great. I’d love to see something different from them like an actual convincing victory for once.

You are right that Desai had some good games last year as the DC before it all fell apart. But I feel like I have seen more from this team, particularly in the RZ defensively than we saw for most of last year. There was also a lot more turmoil on the defensive staff last year with the whole Patricia situation. What Gannon ran is not the same as what Fangio runs. Gannon's system was influenced by Fangio, but he was also running a 4-3 hybrid where Vic runs more of a 3-4. So while the general philosophy might be the same, the X's and O's are different. You also had Hargrave, Cox and Reddick who could all rush the passer and are no longer here. That was the big difference, they have been completely inept at rushing the QB at the tail end of last year and the start of this season. They really need to work something out with their edge guys because they have been horrid the first two weeks. 23 hours ago, eagle45 said: They are 2-9 in their last 11 games. This year they have already managed to beat the Packers who a lot of people have picked to make a deep playoff run. They beat an outstanding team in week 1 and that is the big difference, it was a quality win that they could have pounded them if not for the self inflicted wounds.

Isn’t Fangio’s responsibility to understand his talent? If he’s having players play outside their natural comfort zones then how are they going to get better? His scheme is more important than the players? Are we back to the Chip Kelly days?

It's on the GM to get talent that fits the scheme. It's not a 1 year job and it they're going to be most likely be middle of the road this year before taking that step in year 2. Huff played in a 3-4 as an edge rusher, so they actively brought him in. Unfortunately, he has been bad early. Sweat they should have offloaded in the offseason and looked to replace him with someone that fit the scheme better. They are the guys you're expecting to set and impact off the edge and this is where the majority of the issues have come in the first two games. They are creating 0 pass rush and have not played well in the run game. We will see how Fangio adjusts Neither of their safeties are great downhill attack the run guys due to their size and tackling but CJGJ had that big stop on 4th down and they haven't been exposed. Baun has played well in the scheme so far, Dean has looked better than last year with the coaching and Mitchell is a rookie that will make some mistakes but hasn't looked out of his depth. Davis should fit a 3-4 better than a 4-3, same with Nolan Smith. Carter is the one you expect more from in year 2 than some dumb penalties. The first year on defense always tends to have some teething problems. Cox was complaining when Gannon came in year 1 about what he was being asked to do. The second year in the system they were on track for a record number of sacks
September 20, 20241 yr And for those that keep referencing Spags, he didn't step straight into the Chiefs DC position and have them dominate games like they have the past two years. It took some time to turn them into the unit they are right now. Fangio is taking control of a unit that was one of the worst in the league at the back end of last season. The RZ defense has been quite good and a massive improvement

He ended up taking accountability for it post game in an interview which I can respect

That said was that really the spot to do it? Game on the line at the end just do your basic job and prevent the pass surely?

So many pieces playing out of position. With that being the case near the end of last season many of these guys weren’t playing well. New defense, but similar results. A 3-4 defense affords many opportunities to utilize blitz packages and to scheme zone blitzes. Fangio needs to step up.
September 21, 20241 yr The falcons was one of those games eagles SHOULD have won. Inexcusable. New coaches/scheme. I guess they gotta iron out the kinks..
September 21, 20241 yr Pretty sure the Falcons game was one of those unacceptable to lose games. The problem with losing one of those is that now you have to win one youre not supposed to to make up for it.
September 22, 20241 yr 2-2 looks better than 1-3. That’s what they are looking at going into the bye. After the bye can they even beat the Browns? Who knows at this point.
