When he has 30 or 40 NFL starts under his belt, watch out! At the very least, when watching young players, you want to see those flashes in games and we're getting those every week with Dean. His consistency should improve with experience. One thing about Dean that is rarely mentioned in discussion is that he wears the green dot and has that extra responsibility of communicating to the defense on the field. All the trash talking on Smith and he has been playing great the last 3-4 games but no one creates threads for that or acknowledges it.

Some fans think every player is an instant star or a bust. Smith was a project this team felt they could afford since we already had Reddick locked up through this season. Go TEAM.

It was a great play by Rodgers had played great football in his 17 snaps. But even though CJGJ has been a bit disappointing at times, he's still the one fiery presence on the defense that can set the tone. Getting the INT was like getting that monkey off his back and hopefully he'll return to his playmaking ways. And hopefully it's contagious. It is a team sport and when they come away with team wins, it's something that they can grow from.

Hard to get excited about defensive performances vs the Browns and Giants, two of the worst offenses in the league. The Cinn game was the best the team has played in a long time. Let's see how Smith does against average or better offenses, not the dregs

November 4, 20241 yr The Dawgz had another solid game overall. Ringo with the fumble recovery. Dean sealing a victory. Davis and Carter mostly solid verses the run. Smith getting some solid pressurezzzz! I want to see the DLine guys do a little bit more overall, but they seem to be turning the corner overall.
November 15, 20241 yr So can we say nolan Smith has come around or was it just against another bad team so it doesn't count??

November 15, 20241 yr The Dawgz are playing legit football right now. Carter is a game wrecker. You can tell the game has slowed down for Dean, because he’s rarely out of position now and when he diagnoses a play he just attacks. Smith is getting that pressure off the edge. It’s to the point where Smith has surpassed the money man in Huff. Davis is rotating with the other guys, but he gets some reps too. Fangio has these young guys flying to the football and shutting teams down.

Blankenship started as an undrafted rookie and improved a lot now in his 3rd year. Carter started as a rookie and now is dominating in his 2nd year. Some players take more time, that's fine. BG didn't really take off til a few years. Dean is improving too. Just saying that Nolan Smith is improving, albeit slowly. People shouldn't expect him to be great yet. His growth is slower than some others.

So far Carter is the only one showing some potential. Howie did it again! Jordan Davis Nakobe Dean Nolan Smith Jalen Carter (potential) EDIT: Hopefully this becomes the equivalent of the legendary "LeSean McCoy = BUST" thread on the old forum but it's not looking that way! Time's yours. I think you have achieved the level of the LeSean McCoy = Bust, status. Kudos. Howie's looking pretty good at 8-2 again. 4 years in a row.

His growth is slower than some others. Technically, Carter only had 1 "start" as a rookie. I agree that people's expectations should be realistic with N. Smith. I don't feel his growth is slower than normal or anything. As a pass rusher, he lacked experience coming into the NFL and those skills don't develop overnight. When everybody was griping about Smith in August/September I asked what he would have to do/show this season to quiet the concerns that he was a wasted pick. Most critics declined the opportunity to set a 2nd year bar for him, but a couple responded and the feeling was that if he was able to get 6 or 7 sacks on the season, that would be a good sign. He's on pace to reach that bar. And for those that care, his PFF grade so far on the season is 19 points higher than his 2023 grade. We'd all love players to be superstars from day 1, but that isn't realistic. Smith's development is on schedule and is encouraging. He's a much better player than he was last season.

I wasn't even criticizing Nolan. I said he's improving. I added slowly because fans tend to pass judgement on players one way or another based off 1 game. Nolan might be like BG and become a really solid player just needs more time. He might regress, who knows. I want to see consistency from players. There are players that have great starts and then fizzle out.
November 16, 20241 yr Jordan Davis deserves mention. Him playing slightly less snaps has improved his play. He has been space eating well.
