Davis was drafted too high to be one dimensional.

We can't do anything about the resources it took to get him. The question is, does he help make this team better. IMO, he does.

As far as NTs, they don't always break out immediately in the NFL. It usually takes a few seasons.

Maybe I’m a fool here, but I’m not ready to give up on Davis as a player. I still think there’s a lot of potential there. He’s never going to be some multi sack man in the middle, but if he can take on multiple blocks so the linebackers can run free then I’m good with him.

How long did it take before Brandon Graham became a player? 5 years?

That pick was crapped on as soon as it happened because they did not take Earl Thomas who was taken a pick afterwards. I think they made the right pick.

Sometimes lineman hit off right away. Sometimes they take a bit longer. We really will not know about Davis for at least another year or so.

I actually wanted JPP which would have been better initially

That and Earl Thomas were the biggest reasons his selection got so much hate

Poor Nick Wright. He blasts Howie for our recent drafts, concluding that N. Smith, Dean, Davis and Ringo were all sure-fire busts like Reagor because they didn't light up the league on day 1 of their NFL careers. He claimed Barkley would have no impact on the offense and he predicted the NFC East would be dallas 1st, then Commanders, then Eagles. After September, he claimed the Eagles had a "Jalen Hurts problem."

Hey ... at least he got the giants right.

The first job of a NT or center shaded DT is to stop the run. I think Davis is already a plus on run defense. At that position he can also be successful in his pass rush duty without getting a sack or even a hit on the QB. If he’s moving 1 or 2 linemen 2-3 yards into the backfield, that gives the edge guys a better shot at getting sack because the qb can’t step up, it also clogs up the line of sight. I don’t see Jordan Davis getting stonewalled at the line of scrimmage very often, even when getting double teamed.

Playing well! Coming along nicely.

Carter/Davis doing good up front helps the LBs.

great post

I think the coaches have finally found the sweet spot for playing time for Davis, and it's right around 35-40%. Through the first four games, when our defense sucked, he was playing around 50% of the snaps. That number plummeted to 20% against the Giants in week 6 (although I guess it's possible he got nicked up), but he's worked his way up to anywhere from 35-40%.

He seems to be playing at a much higher level in recent weeks, so I'm guessing he just doesn't have the gas tank to put in Carter type time, which is fine. If he's a monster on most first or second down running plays, I think we'll all live with that.

It appears the entire unit needed time to adjust to Fangio's scheme. They are all playing well and the coaching is utilizing them in ways that play to their strengths and workaround their weaknesses, which is what good coaching is supposed to do.

Facts... I don't know why he wasn't part of the ESPN layoffs 🤣

Carter is insane.

That doesn't change how I feel 🤣

Nolan Smith this year seems to just get better every week. Jalen Carter is a problem for offenses. Heck Davis was killing the Ravens line today. Nakobe Dean is an essential member of this defense so much so that you noticed when he wasn’t out there against the Ravens. Man Howie hit on so many picks for this defense. Even Hunt who everyone just thought was going to be a guy who would need much more time to develop has been a solid contributor on defense and special teams. The Dogs aren’t busts.

Glad you came around on Dean! Lol

You mean the play when Dean had to go fromthe field and Henery immediatelly hit 10 yard run? I noticed immediatelly

Yeah I didn’t expect Dean to pan out. He’s been great this year, and he seems to enjoy blitzing and trying to destroy the running back trying to block him.

Yeah I was not a fan, but the kid is killing it. I can admit when I’m wrong…. Except about Chip Kelly. Screw that guy. 😂
