Posted September 23, 20241 yr Had this discussion with some friends and family the other day. I haven't written a check to pay anything in a long time. With the debit card, you don't need to. Every transaction instantly shows up on my online statement. I don't even carry cash anymore. I can't even remember the last time I had over $50 cash in my pocket. Now it's either insert, swipe or tap. It's that simple. Before my dad passed, he still paid all of his bill by check. He never even owned a mobile phone. It worked for him, but definitely wanted him to embrace the new eras of technology.
September 23, 20241 yr Sorry about your Dad, Dungaroo. Now that I think about it, my wife will still write one or two. We (She, LOL) pays our yard/grass cutter by check, because that's how he wants to be paid. And for some like school charity/selling event, checks still work. I always have some cash on me. Hit the ATM once every two weeks or so and take out $100/$150. But yeah, for almost all purchases I use a Debit or Credit Card.
September 23, 20241 yr I haven't written a check in 20 years. I don't use cash, it's nasty. Hooker currency. Apple pay the only way. When someone is in front of me counting out change I get the urge to punch them in the throat.
September 23, 20241 yr I will audibly bish if I have to write a check. The only times I still regularly write one is my shooting range dues (cause it's run by olds) and my local per capita tax (same reason). I like using cash, but only for friends/small businesses. For instance, the gun shop I go to will give you a discount or wave sales tax if you use cash. Same with the beer distributor. Any other time, it's a card. And if you don't take cards, you're dumb and behind the times. (The ironic thing here is that BFit electronics doesn't accept cards )
September 23, 20241 yr I write one each month...... its for my mortgage...... that bank is run by the mafia. If I gave them direct electronic access to my checking account...... I would have paid the house off years ago..... would have defaulted on a few cars, and the water would have been shut off..... but the house would be mine free and clear.
September 24, 20241 yr I haven't written a check in a few years, other than something like a big down payment on a car or something where electronic payment was not acceptable. I will say that I was writing checks right up to maybe a year before Covid. I was late embracing debit card only. I don't have any credit cards. Haven't had one since 2011 because I was going sideways with debt. Just cut them up one day, starting paying them off, and used either check/cash/debit since.

I used to always used debit cards till I got scammed one year. It was my dope mistake, but the bank told me the was basically nothing they could do about it. If it was a credit card though, they could have stopped the payment. That and cash back points sold me. Just have to be more careful cause young BFit got a little carried away with credit cards....
September 24, 20241 yr I write checks for donations in person and planned. I also write checks when I have a contractor do work on my house.
September 25, 20241 yr My sewer bill is the only bill I can’t pay online unless I want to pay a stupid payment fee, so I write a check for that. That gets paid every few months. Other than that, the only check I’ve written in recent times was a check to my daughter in law.

Funny story, a buddy of mine years back, got onto I-95 in MD, had no cash on him, he lived in PA and was driving from MD to PA. He didn't realize there was a toll at the DE/MD line on I-95.. So when he got to the toll collector, he was like 'uhhhhhhhh I have no money and no EZ Pass'. They let him through, but he got like a $55 fine.

October 7, 20241 yr Sometimes if I am paying someone back for something and they don't have paypal then I write a check (no I don't trush venomo or zelle). I don't have to keep record of it and its easy record to get if theres an issue. Or in some rare situations when a check is the preferred for of payment like immigration and naturalization services.
