Yes I really like the jump that smith made hopefully that happens again for next year! Could make it so edge isn’t has huge of a need this offseason.

Right now he seems to be a bit in Fangio’s doghouse (based on comments Vic makes about him) but guessing it’s just tough love … hoping Huff takes to it and next year shows he was worth the investment. If that happens and Smith continues to develop and Hunt takes that next step in year 2 like Smith did this year, we should be in good shape at EDGE. Would just need some depth/rotational pieces.

January 6Jan 6 If Huff was a bicycle he'd a be a Huffy. A Huffy with two flats and no seat. Laid out by the garbage cans that nobody will even steal because it's straight trash. I watched the game yesterday and didn't hear his name once. Fangio should make him a shirt that says "I got a $50 million dollar contract and all I got was this stupid shirt" and make him wear it on the sidelines. What a turd. 💩 I don't normally get as bothered by underperforming players but this team is on the cusp of doing special things and it doesn't seem to matter to this clown.

I'm not making excuses for him but he did just return from IR the previous week and saw limited snaps in that game so he could be just shaking off the rust a bit. Plus he is wearing a cast on that left hand ... maybe that is limiting him somewhat. But he was credited with a team high 5 QB pressures against the Giants so there is that.

Huff is a pass rush specialist. That's how the team should use him. He has shown he can't play the run, so just play him on passing downs. Hunt is fine against the run but pretty bad as a pass rusher, so there seems to be an easy solution here.
January 7Jan 7 Huffy is on pace for 15 solo tackles over his 3 year contract. $3.3million per tackle. Somebody call the police. He's stealing all Mr. Laurie's money. 🙈

I mean look I think he played late in the game because he needs the snaps. As you have said he was on IR so he’s had a "rest”. And okay I didn’t realise he had 5 QB pressures… that’s encouraging but it still didn’t feel like a great game by him? And that was something we saw before he got hurt.

Honestly to me it feels like people are just looking for a gripe here. Huff has been pretty solid since they figured out how to use him effectively. Drew Lock had an average time to throw of 2.43 seconds (3rd lowest in week 18). His average intended air yards was a measly 3.5 yards (2nd lowest). There just isn't going to be a lot of sack opportunities when the opponents play scared like that. Another thing about edge rushers is you can't really evaluate them when plays are run away from their side. So what exactly were people expecting from Huff in week 18 --- 4 sacks and 12 tackles? He was just one player on a defense that only allowed 138 passing yards on the day. Unless somebody has some video of him really screwing up on a rep or two in this game, I'm just going to call BS on the negative spin.
January 9Jan 9 Some guys just have really bad years.......I think Huff struggled with his role, been banged up a couple times and never really produced. But the playoffs can get a guy revitalized......hopefullly, Huff can take advantage of it and make big contributions.

Huff spent the first part of the season being either invisible or getting abused in the running game. He's spent much of the second half of the season injured and is coming back to a reduced role. That's not to say he can't turn it around, and I don't think anyone will be complaining about the signing if he makes some plays in the playoffs, but it's OK to not be head over heels about every player.

True, but everybody on here was unimpressed with the Zach Baun and Mekhi Becton signings........ The point is that some guys flourish in other systems and other guys might struggle to get going......to write Huff off right now would be premature.....But yes, coming thru in the playoffs would be a big boost to the pass rush and make up some for his lack of production this season.

I'm not sure if that last line was a general statement or a shot at me in particular. Personally, I don't get that attached to players. I just don't see the need to berate players ad nauseam. None are perfect. Some are better than others. But at the end of the day, can a player do enough as 1 of 11 on the field to help his team win the game? Reddick outperformed his contract while he was here. Huff has done the opposite to date. But I'm not angry because of how much he makes. When you sign other team's FAs, you tend to overpay and there will always be questions regarding how a player from one system will do in a different one. But even with Huff's salary, it didn't keep us from signing anybody else that can help the team. We still have plenty of cap space and are heading into the playoffs as the #2 seed with what is considered one of the best rosters in the NFL. So I have absolutely no reason to shrug at a 3 tackle / 5 pressure game as if our defense played poorly and hurt us in some way.
January 13Jan 13 It feels like he barely saw the field today. Smith was a beast but it would be good if Huff can have an impact through the playoffs

Let’s hope a fire is lit in the offseason and he becomes at least a useful pass rush specialist, because unfortunately he’s not cuttable or tradable with that contract.

I guess they could try and restructure his deal? May make him more appealing in a trade? Or may just help us to keep him as a pure rotational player. Thank God Smith has stepped up so much.

I am still hopeful he can become a solid contributor here in time. Not exactly the same situation but it took Smith a year to show something. People are way too quick to want to write a player off. If he looks the same next year mid season as he does now then I'll lose hope.

It sure would be nice if he could at least contribute a little? The pass rush wasn’t horrid yesterday but it also wasn’t great and Sweat didn’t seem to be much of a factor?

I'm not making excuses for his play this year (not sure what you took in my previous response to think otherwise). I am simply saying I am still hopeful he can turn it around here ... hopefully next season he is night and day compared to this year. I do think it is a bit strange he saw the field for only one snap ... can't contribute if you aren't on the field.
