I am still hopeful he can become a solid contributor here in time.  Not exactly the same situation but it took Smith a year to show something.  People are way too quick to want to write a player off.  If he looks the same next year mid season as he does now then I'll lose hope.   

Huh, very interesting that Jordan Davis only played 13 snaps and was out-snapped by Ojomo. Ojomo played well, but Davis looked pretty disruptive early, and with a power back like Josh Jacobs, I'm really surprised to see that.

And yeah, Huff is pretty worthless. So much for hoping he'd make a difference in the playoffs.

Ojomo drew two holding calls and Davis drew another. Carter played most of the game and Williams 65%. The packers passed more than they ran and were playing from behind most of the game. So it's not really a surprise. Jacobs only had 18 carries.

Huff may have a Nolan Smith type 2nd season. It isn't like we aren't witnessing that with the aforementioned Smith.

I think Smith was playing so well they just wanted to keep him out there which also cut into his play time. But 1 snap in garbage time isn't promising for Huff

He could bounce back, but it's also kind of crazy that he's been benched in favor of a late third round rookie who spent a good chunk of his college career playing safety, and after we lost Brandon Graham for the season. Just wild that we've got a three-man rotation at the position and our 13 million per season prized free agent isn't one of them. 

Huff is a huge bust and the only Mistake Howie made in the off season. 

Actually his one play he fought through two guys and got pressure on Love.  The play Love threw the INT to Mitchell.  I still feel if used properly in a strictly pass rush situation in a three point stance he can be a help.

Smith worked his ass off to get the snaps he's gotten. Huff has to do the same. He has to work his ass off to become a better run defender. Let's not forget, Huff wasn't asked to play the run with the Jets. He was allowed to simply rush from a wide-9 stance. That isn't going to be the case here.

I reckon Huff is gone next year. Seems to be in Fangio's dog box. Eagles will draft a guy high and sign Khalil Mack to a 1 year deal for vetran leadership of the group.

EDIT: I take that back, his contract probably means he is back next year but he will be #4 or #5 DE, fighting to be activated on game days vs the rookie

The Eagles aren't going after Mack. Garrett or Clowney types, sure.

This is Smith's 2nd year. And he has almost as many tackles as Huff has in 5 years and half as many sacks. This is what he's done every year outside of 1 year. Huffy is collecting a paycheck, he's a lazy bum.

I mean, I really don't care that much to say Huff cannot improve or live up to his contract. I don't think he is lazy or a bum. He may not be a fit here. Which is on Howie.

Its not that he can't improve - and I think he is perfectly OK rushing the passer and could be used in such a role. I just don't think Fangio cares much for his one dimensional game.

Could he learn to be a plus run player - sure but it has never been his game, so its a tall task.

This was Year 1 of Howie working with Fangio - he didn't nail what his DC wanted with this signing.

Like Cyn said above, Smith was entering his second year. Smith was also a first round prospect as opposed to the undrafted Huff, so he's also got way more physical ability and overall potential. Huff should be close to or already a finished product at this point in his career. And so far, for the majority of the time he's been in the league he's been an end of the bench guy with the exception of last season when he put up great sack numbers. At this point, I think the best we can hope for is that he becomes a serviceable situational pass rusher for us. Certainly not what we wanted out of $13 million per year.

Still a better value than Bradberry.

Imagine how bad he has to be with only 3 DEs to rotate that he still can't get on the field for any meaningful snaps. If he can turn it around today and help send the Rams home all is forgiven. 

Howie very rarely misses when acquiring vets via either trade or FA (with the caveat that the acquisition doesn't come after camp...since that brings Dotson, Tate, Quinn, Avery into the mix).  But it happens.

Any chance they can dump him in the offseason and clear up some cap space?

It’s hard not to lose faith but I’m still hoping the light bulb turns on for Huff, as long as he is an Eagles I’ll root for him.

Another important game in the books with another donut performance for huffy. Maybe he asks for a trade in the off-season and redoes his deal to facilitate it. A guy can always dream.
