January 20Jan 20 Fangio should make Huff a 'Thirst quencher' hat, and make him wear it on the sidelines while he serves the entire D line Gatorade. At least then he'd be contributing something.

January 21Jan 21 Can someone remind me... was Huff brought in with Fangios blessing? I don't believe a player like him just falls off the map like that. I wasn't expecting Reddick #s, but at least something a little better than Nolan Smith. Not knocking Smith, this is just the start for him.

He didn't "just fall off the map". He's a roughly 2.5 sack single digit solo tackle guy 4 out of 5 years. There's enough history there to see it pretty clearly. He had one outlier year with 10 sacks. Statistically he is what he's always been. A low effort guy with the exception of a contract year looking for his next victim. Howie gambled thinking maybe he turned the corner. Howie lost. January 21Jan 21 A one armed Brandon Graham could contribute something. Would be great if he could try.

January 21Jan 21 Will Brandon Graham be back for the SB? He still seems to say it's possible. Bryce Huff is a bust.

January 22Jan 22 I love Howie, but this FA signing was one of the worst ever. Does anyone know if they can somehow get out of it?

Yep, definitly a whiff in projection and how he'd fit in with the new D-cordinator's scheme. But there are others FA signings in contention too - Murray, Maxwell, Nnamdi. Yes they played (badly) but they all came with more hype as well. Re: his contract, I dont think a cut next year is all that atttractive cap wise but a trade can be feasible, which wont be for much at all. FWIW, I dont think Huff is unplayable / can't have a role in the NFL. He is just very one-dimensional in what he is good at / can do and Fangio doesn't have much time for that game.

Nolan Smith has just been getting better and better and it doesn't make sense to take him off the field more than necessary. Smith played 82% of the snaps and Sweat played 87%. Hunt played the rest. Right now Huff is depth and the 4th best edge on the roster. Obviously his isn't out-performing his contract or even living up to it. But he can be a decent pass rush specialist if you have starters that lack in that area.

January 22Jan 22 Imagine he gets a strip sack in the Super Bowl in his one play he gets per game would that make the signing worth it?

Howie is pretty good at listening to coaches about what players or types of players to go get. Fangio liked Baun, also Jalyx Hunt. Don't recall ever hearing anything about Huff being a desire of Fangio. In any case, it seems Huff is the stereotypical "contract year guy" and parlayed it into big money only for him to fade back into obscurity.
