BEIRUT (AP) — A massive explosion rocked Beirut on Tuesday, flattening much of the port, damaging buildings and blowing out windows and doors across the capital and sending a giant mushroom cloud into the sky. There were hundreds of casualties, with bodies buried under the rubble, officials said.

Yep.  Crazy fact I learned from Netflix's "Last Dance" documentary on the Chicago Bulls dynasty:

Steve Kerr's dad was one of the people killed during the violence over there in the early 1980's.

a kid from my home town was killed in the barracks bombing in 83. i hadn’t been out long at all.

That's crazy.  The ties to Syria in that area were all too obvious during that time.  Lebanon has been a proxy state for their violence forever.
