Posted September 29, 20241 yr Quote Kris Kristofferson "passed away peacefully in his home" in Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday, Sept. 28, Fox News Digital confirmed. In addition to roles in the "Blade" trilogy and "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid," Kristofferson earned a Golden Globe Award for best actor for his role in "A Star Is Born." The country music legend was part of the Highwaymen with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. The supergroup revolutionized the outlaw country music genre in the '80s. "It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home," his family said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. "We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all," Kristofferson's family said. His role in "A Star is Born" was actually supposed to go to Elvis, but his manager Colonel Parker refused to sign the deal since Elvis wasn't top billing. Too bad, too because it might have saved Elvis' life, at least for a little while longer.

Can’t imagine how much money Elvis could have made if he did a world tour. Also, Kristofferson was an Army helo pilot in the 60s, and went to Ranger School.

Definitely, I've been an Elvis fan since before my memory begins (my parents were teens in the 50's so my father made sure that at least one of his kids was an Elvis fan lol), and I've always said that had Elvis really fired Parker when he 'fired' him, he'd likely have lived longer than he did. I also think that a European tour would have dwarfed the "British Invasion" and an Asia tour (to include Australia) would have done the same. I really believe that "A Star Is Born" could have prolonged his life had Parker not insisted on top billing. Another thing that Parker did was after Elvis told Dolly Parton that he wanted to record "I Will Always Love You" and Dolly was very much excited at the prospect, was to insist on her forfeiting half of the publishing rights, and Dolly rightfully refused. Shame, I'd like to hear his version of the song.

I wonder if Elvis put up with it because his dad was cut from a similar cloth as Parker.

I think there's only one or two of them left now, unless he's died and I haven't heard it, Jerry Schilling is still around. Aside from him, I'm not sure, I know that Sonny and Red West have both died as well as Charlie Hodge. Red actually went on to have his own Hollywood career as a character actor in many TV shows in the late 70's and into the 80's. As for Vernon, I don't know this for sure but I don't think he had a high level of education. I could be wrong, but that's always been my impression. From what I've read about Elvis and Colonel Parker, Elvis was just too loyal and since Parker basically fulfilled his promise to make Elvis a Millionaire within a year, Elvis just remained loyal and refused to go against him.
