Thanks for offering a take that makes sense. Of course regime change is always risky and often comes at a great cost. Trump has backed himself into a corner here. If he backs down this time his threats will never be taken seriously again. If he moves forward he may actually lose MAGA.

There never was, is and probably never will be an easy solution to the Middle East. It’s extremely complicated with all the religious elements involved. Multiple administrations and countries have tried to solve that problem and have failed to bring stability and peace. And some of those administrations had very smart and strategic people involved. Now we have a regime that has some of the dumbest idiots ever and they are led by an even dumber and imbecile leader.

I agree that the Iran regime has and always will be evil. It should be taken out. Best scenario would be if the suppressed Iranian people see their chance for freedom and bring change from within. A regime change from the outside, led by Israel will not bring peace to that region. Israel, under the current Netanyahu regime, has had their fair share of gaslighting the regional situation. A regime change in Israel would probably ease tensions as well.

Sure, there will be damage to US foreign policies and relations, but do you think anyone takes the US serious right now anyway? Of course there is the power aspect of military and economic might that they take serious, but nothing coming out of the Oval is taken seriously. You really can’t, as it changes by the hour.

I agree with what you are saying and I also believe this is a key moment for Trump. His decision here will shape his presidency to a large extent. He either takes the country into war and loses half his base or he loses all of any power he has left in international affairs. I suspect he will try to take a middle ground thru some attempt at a strategic bombing limited event but that will be hard to contain.

Agree that he tries for some middle ground option. No matter which option he ends up choosing, he will sell it to his base in a way that they fall back in line. It’s a cult and he is the "chosen one” to those lemmings.

How is that harder to contain than Obama hitting Libya? Trump took out a general with a strike his first term. That didn't end in war.

Not many here wanted Israel to start this but I doubt many of us are mad at the results of them knocking them down.

This thing has started so it needs to be finished hopefully with negotiations but if not with their air defenses down I'm not going to be upset if we finish off the sites. It's pointless to not get a deal and leave them sitting there.

We are six days in and haven't attacked yet. We are also six days in and even with virtually no air defenses they don't seem willing to surrender in negotiations.

Outside of Graham and the hawks I don't anyone who wants full scale war on the ground. With the situation forced on us it also needs to be finished. It can and hopefully will be by the middle ground you spoke of IF we do get involved militarily because they won't cave in negotiations.

It is harder for several reasons. First, Iran is not Libya. Iran is far more powerful in terms of its military and even more so it’s intelligence and cyber capabilities. Second, times are different with the proven advanced drone capabilities and cyber risks. Third, Israel and the Middle East power battles weren’t factors with Libya. Lastly, the measures being considered are on an entirely different scale and level of strategic importance.

Agree, but they are also crippled. Israel has also made the choice to start this.

Like you said he has to make a choice. We can do nothing and leave it or finish them in negotiations or limited strikes.

I'm convinced he's going to bomb. He just threw a macho warlord military parade FFS.
