December 8, 20204 yr I hadn't realized how down party lines the vote was on this: Guess this basically confirms it doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing through the senate.
December 8, 20204 yr Ok... so lets throw out the whole "should you be taking substances or not" stance, which is where I can only guess the Republicans are coming from (or maybe its the side effect of releasing prisoners?) for a moment. Objectively, Marijuana does not fit the definition of Schedule 1. Quote Schedule I Schedule I Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are: heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote One of these things is not like the other.

Not surprising. It's always been a Dem issue that the Dems were too afraid to fully own. No idea why, especially nowadays when full legalization is so commonplace. When Biden takes over, they should vote over and over again on this, keep putting it on McConnell's desk, like Republicans with repealing Obamacare, and make him kill it over and over again. They should make it a seminal issue in 2022 that only requires a couple Senate seats to turn.
December 8, 20204 yr Author Guessing people didnt like this part of the MORE Act reduces federal funds for a state that has not legalized marijuana But it is just a matter of time before it is decriminalized and then legalization happens. States like Illinois are going to bring in less revenue than say Michigan because of how much it is taxed. Hopefully, the market will drive competition and thus lower taxes because some states it is stupid.

December 27, 20204 yr Why medical marijuana in Pennsylvania is some of the most expensive in the U.S. decent article. I remember getting into it with people here saying I was getting it cheaper in CO legally than I was in the PA black market. This was eye opening: Quote In Colorado, a full ounce of average weed often sells to consumers for $190. In Pennsylvania, the price is closer to $500. Some especially rapacious growers charge $600.

That’s why she pushed for the passage of Measure 110, first-of-its-kind legislation that decriminalizes the possession of all illegal drugs in Oregon, including heroin, cocaine, meth and oxycodone. Instead of a criminal-justice-based approach, the state will pivot to a health-care-based approach, offering addicts treatment instead of prison time. Those in possession will be fined $100, a citation that will be dropped if they agree to a health assessment. The law goes into effect Monday and will be implemented over the next decade by the state officials at the Oregon Health Authority. I'm very interested to see how this goes.
February 4, 20214 yr If this happens, don't ever say Democrats haven't done anything for you. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/cannabis-legalisation-chuck-schumer-democrat-b1796397.html?utm_source=reddit.com&fbclid=IwAR1lAm95ZWWtpgBLWSYhV4qB14fXXHo_Lyw3zWkzkKvSuKM9uO0Tb1ik7Ak Quote Three top Senate Democrats have vowed to work towards the legalisation of marijuana this year, including majority leader Chuck Schumer. Sen Schumer, alongside New Jersey Sen Cory Booker and Oregon Sen Ron Wyden released a joint statement on Monday declaring their intention to push forward major cannabis policy reform. "The War on Drugs has been a war on people—particularly people of colour,” the statement reads. "Ending the federal marijuana prohibition is necessary to right the wrongs of this failed war and end decades of harm inflicted on communities of colour across the country.”

I mean, we can FINALLY buy beer and wine in grocery stores.* *Side rant, you have to love how arbitrary the rules are here. You can buy beer at a distributor, but not wine and booze. Wine and booze you can get at a state store, but not beer. You can get beer and wine at a grocery store, but not booze.
February 24, 20214 yr New Jersey governor signs laws to legalize marijuana use, decriminalize possession

February 28, 20214 yr Virginia Congress has passed legalization policy. The Governor who is pro legalization now left sign on and we add another state. Won't be effective until Jan 1, 2024 unfortunately.

So stupid but a good step here Virginia House and Senate lawmakers have concurred with Governor Ralph Northam’s proposed amendments to legislation filed during a special legislative session, Senate Bill 5029 and House Bill 5058, that severely limits the ability of police to engage in warrantless searches solely on the basis of the smell of marijuana. The new law will be effective March 1, 2021.
