At this time I wasn't worried about this thing being future proof. I hope it lasts the first 45 days when school is all online. Coronavirus, or using a computer? Former, sure, but latter? He is going to have home projects likely starting in the 2nd (book reports?) Or 3rd (science reports?) grade. Don't cheap out on a dual/quad processor and RAM, or you'll have a useless brick soon.

I dont have any expectation of it lasting very long. But I wont invest much more money until my kids are a bit older. As long as this will stream his online classes for this year, Im happy. For now, theyre only scheduled to be online for the first 45 days and will be re-evaluating that plan every 2 weeks. As soon as he can be in school again, he will be.
August 10, 20205 yr Yeah as really there are a lot of schools that offer either online and/or in person.

You can get something that meets your needs this year for under $300.00 via Best Buy. Also, since a 6 year old is bound to physically break it at some point, not overspending on the laptop is wise, but make sure you get whatever full warranty for damage is that they offer. You know kids do the darnedest things.

Now we have to find a chair thats comfortable enough to sit in for a few hours, but not going to provide distracting entertainment for a 6 year old (no spinning, no wheeling, no pneumatic height adjustment). This may be the biggest challenge yet.
