to change his number to something in the 40's so he doesn't have to check in on offense. 

I don't see him getting much LB time anyway but he can have a 40's number for LB anyway.

    I'm just happy he's found a role. I really like his effort and toughness.

    There are special exceptions like when a player is traded to a new team or when a player hasn't played during the current season.  When Davante Adams was traded to the Jets he was able to get his number from Corley.

    And Za'Darius Smith also secured his number from a current player on the Lions upon his arrival via trade.

    But obviously neither of those circumstances apply to VanSumeren.
