Fangio is the one that told howie that baun is an inside linebacker. So howie was wrong on this one too. I forgive Howie..on making his divine Error. :))
December 2, 2024Dec 2 Hopefully this isn’t one where howie thinks we can get a comp pick and have trotter step in and be just as good. Baun needs signed for a couple of years unless Fangio is retiring
December 3, 2024Dec 3 Highest graded LB in the NFL. I’m not sure what we’re waiting for. Price has already gone up and we should have done it a month ago

December 3, 2024Dec 3 No need to worry so much. Contract negotiations can be distractions. Let Baun keep playing for that next contract.

So let him show what he has for the full season and then do what we can to keep him in the offseason.
December 4, 2024Dec 4 Every week the price keeps going up..... He is a racking ball in this defense. Got to resign him.
December 4, 2024Dec 4 I will dig into my Savings account and offer him $10 for every sack, tackle, TFL, forced fumble, fumble recovery, and INT. He just may take that offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You sign a guy early and half the fan base worries that it's too early. The price for off-ball LBs is not worrisome if it, in Baun's case, "keeps going up." Off-ball LBs are like the RBs of defenses when it comes to how they are valued. Let Baun establish his value with his play on the field. If he wants to stay, he'll re-sign here. If, like TJ Edwards, he dreams to be on some other team, he'll try to work something out there. Like many of you, I'd like for him to stay. But if it doesn't work out that way, we still have Dean on a rookie contract for another season and Trotter Jr who has also played very well in his limited opportunities. Football is a business and I would imagine the Eagles have already been in discussions with his agent about an extension. It would be bad business for the Eagles not to open with a "safe" offer. Baun's camp probably is using free agency as leverage which is good business on the player's part. There is, however, a risk that Baun could suffer a major injury which would significantly affect that leverage. If the Eagles made a "safe" offer, he would have been protected through that. So that's where the risk lies. If the bad scenario (major injury) did happen, the Eagles would probably offer him a low 2-year "prove it" deal to keep him here for the rehab year and then 1 more season where he would hopefully be fully healthy at the beginning. It's just business. It makes more sense to wait and see at this point unless the two sides have been hammering out a deal for a while and are close at the time of this post.

December 5, 2024Dec 5 Baun is one of good additions this past off-season. It would be foolish not to extend him. The team does not value LBs that much. The FO better be smart on paying the appropriate amount to secure his service.

January 27Jan 27 3 year 39m. Good enough to make him happy. Safe enough that we don't take a bath if this year was a 1 off. That makes him the 6th highest paid LB per AAV

Which isn't far off from your guess...

Hopefully Howie can make it relatively cap friendly.
