This dude deserves his props. I know he's no Saquon, Shady or BWest - very few are. But Kenny G is reliable, sturdy, he makes plays, he's decent in blitz pick-up, he can get yards on the ground, he can get yards on a screen or a swing. Let's show him some love. Not many teams have such a good relief spot back who can do it all. We would sure as hell notice his absence if he was elsewhere. He's an important player for this offense, and I hope he is with us for a long time to come.

Did I hear right and they said Gainwell has been with the Eagles for 12 years? Lol morons. 🤣🤦‍♂️

I do believe he is underappreciated. I'm not sure how well he'd perform as a RB1, but he's a very solid RB2 and this year he's giving Barkley valuable breathers. There was a lot of hate directed toward him last year and most of it was unfair.

I dont mind him and think he is good enough but, he isn't one of the few in the league as the OP said. The league is littered with guys like Gainwell.

I like him for his role. I think he's learned that to be more assertive hit his lanes. Did wonders for him last night.

He serves his role on the team very well.

Would like to see Will Shipley get some more touches, if possible.

Definitely with the starting O-line. I love seeing big leads where we can take all the starters out, but feel a little sorry for Shipley, since everybody knows what's coming.

Gainpoor is a spell guy. I don’t think anyone is under or overvaluing the player. He has moments where he makes some good plays and he does have some versatility, but there’s also times where he takes the wrong hole and doesn’t get yards or he misses a key block that forces the quarterback to get sacked or rushed out the pocket. I don’t see Gainwell as a piece the Eagles must have to be successful.

Hes like the current Corey Clement...hopefully he will live up to the legendary Corey.

Good change up back. Fills the role very well.

I've always liked Gainwell as a complementary piece.  Never viewed him as a lead back but you need solid depth pieces and he fits the description.  Free agent after this season ... will be interesting to see if they bring him back on a cheap deal like they did a couple times with Scott or if they just let him walk and add another RB via the draft (or UDFA) to compete with Shipley to backup Barkley.

I don't get the hate Gainwell gets, he's a solid back up guy, always gives 100%, carries at 4.4 per tote and can keep the chains moving when Saquon needs a rest, I can recall one whiffed blitz pick up this year that annoyed the crap out of me but struggle to recall much else he's done wrong or egregiously badly. We don't run a committee so he's pretty much the level I would expect as a back up.

I guess Shipley arriving means he's going to get offered a cheap deal or nothing at the end of the season anyway.

Don't sleep on Shipley.  I like what I've seen so far.

The more sound approach would probably be to use a mid round draft pick on a RB (perhaps even late day 2) that would be better suited to not only back up Barkley but also to potentially step in as lead back should (**knock on wood**) Saquon miss time due to injury.  That player would also be under control for the next 4 years on a (relatively) cheap rookie contract.

He’s a decent back up and a nice piece on this offense. He comes in, does what is required and gives Barkley a rest. And on Thursday I think it was actually Gainwell who started to break a couple of bigger run yards that opened the game up.

They already did that this past draft.

I could see Boobie coming back on the cheap if the Panthers let him go.

I like Shipwell but not as a lead back (even in a temporary role) ... like Gainwell he looks to be a solid complimentary piece.

I don't think we've really had a good look at Shipley. Most of his runs have been behind the backups running out the clock in garbage time. It's hard to get more than 1 or 2 ypc that way. But when he plays with the 1st team offense:

Seems strange to say after Barkley's heroics, but Kenny G was solid again in relief. He's a balller

No doubting Gainwell is a good number 2. I’d love to keep him, but there are a lot of running backs who would look good with this o-line.
Barkley is obviously elite - but we just need solid backups who don’t cost too much. Would love him back at the right price.

Not entirely sure what that has to do with my post but ...

I like Gainwell as a complimentary piece but heaven forbid (and knock on wood here) should something happen to Barkley, I don't think he is built to be a lead back should we need someone for an extended period of time - there would obviously be a huge drop off in the run game.  I think it is likely Shipwell fits that same mold but hard to say with any certainty because we have barely seen him.

This.

Howie has to go into the offseason with a plan to get a workhorse-type back in the draft somewhere.  Gainwell gets more hate than he deserves, but he's also just a guy.  No reason to spend more money on him when you can have Shipley take his spot and get younger in the draft.

Gainwell is doing quite nice and I'm wondering if it's the system more than the backs, not offense to Barkley. I've actually been wondering if Swift would be putting up similar numbers to Barkley if he was in this system. I'm sure it wouldn't have penciled financially but I wish they had both Barkley and Swift.

Gainwell is a good back. Glad the Eagles have him.

I’ve been harshly critical to Gainwell, but the guy has benefitted from playing with Barkley. He now makes guys miss and runs hard. He’s proven me wrong about him.
