Clinching a Playoff Spot (The Quest for the 1 Seed ... is it Better to Have the 2 Seed?)

1 seed is going to take a miracle. Stupid useless Fing Packers

There are definitely games coming up for Detroit that they can lose. Buffalo will be a tough game. Minnesota should be a tough one and SF seem to be going down swinging. The problem is we will lose at least one more game.

While I believe winning out isn't likely, you can't say we will lose one more game as if it is a given.

The 1 seed can only be achievable if Detroit loses 2 games (or should I say, 2 more games than we do ... so them losing 2 means we would have to win out).  The 1 seed seems unlikely at this point.

Okay okay that’s fair. It isn’t a given that we will lose one more but I do think it is likely. Next week is a tough game and then we go on the road to another big game against Washington. Kind of feels like we will lose at least one of those and there’s a decent chance we lose both.

You went from booking a flight to philly for the super bowl to thinking there is a good chance we lose 2 in a row to teams that aren't that good 🤣. Yes the Steelers are 10-2 but, they also dont have that good of an offense and the commanders have completely fallen off a cliff.

We've been in the NFCCG 8 times. 1980, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2017, 2022. Of those 8, only two of them were away. 2001 and 2008. We lost both, of course.

Maybe it's time to remedy that with a road NFCCG win? I'd prefer another home win, of course. But just get to the game and then just win it, no matter where it is. THen we can move on to the next game to remedy our negative Super Bowl record in the Super Dome.

The last time we saw the Commanders they looked pretty good actually. And yes I’m saying we could (not will) lose the next 2 games. Pittsburgh are a tough team and have a really good defense plus Wilson is playing well and we’ve just had a rather disappointing performance. Then we go on the road to Washington in a huge division game. We could lose the next 2 and still make the playoffs but losing the next 2 is a possibility. So is winning both.

Im not worried about the steelers offense in the least. I think this defense proved they can dominate anyone. They held the commanders to under 300 yards of offense and they only scored 18 points i wouldnt call that pretty good.

I meant below their bye week bud… They played really well offensively before their bye week. I just don’t think we should take Pittsburgh lightly. They are a very good defense and their offense has been playing well. We shouldn’t fear the Steelers but I also do think there’s this bubbling situation happening in our locker room.

I agree, im not taking the Steelers lightly but, at the same time im not to concerned about them. I think if we win this one and they have a good game that locker room stuff goes away. Graham has already started back tracking on everything he said.

Firstly BG is back tracking because he’s been told to. He said what he said and I think it was the truth. I don’t think he really thought about what he was saying and the impact it would have but he meant what he said.

We shouldn’t fear the Steelers I agree. But I think it’s more a what if that’s the real concern. What if we lose and the same issues continue? Then it could really start to come apart.

Either way im sick of the BS with this team. 9-0 run and were doing this kind of sheet.

Oh I 100% agree with you! We have a chance to win the SB this year and this happens? And ultimately off the back of a freaking win!

Sure. Just saying in this case (Vikings beating Lions) it's possible.

I agree, I thought that may have been enough and I ran the predictor on ESPN with the Lions, Vikings and Eagles. If the Lions lose to the Vikings in the last week but win all remaining games they finish the 1 seed

1st Seed - Detroit
NFC North Champ (Wins tie break over Minnesota based on best win percentage in common games.)
Wins tie break over Philadelphia based on strength of victory.

If the Lions lose to the Bills and the Vikings win, the Vikings are the 1 seed

1st Seed - Minnesota
NFC North Champ
Wins tie break over Philadelphia based on strength of victory.

Assuming the Eagles win out, we would need the Lions to lose to the Bills, the Vikings to lose to one of the Packers/Seahawks and the Vikes to beat Detroit. They both finish with 14-3 records compared to the Eagles 15-2.

The Eagles can afford to drop their next 2 games, as long as they beat the Cowboys and Giants they will be the 2 seed. I feel like if they are going to drop a game it will be against the Steelers, they have a tough defense and can slog it out and win games kicking FG's.

Perfectly summarized ... thanks!

We clinch NFCE with a win Sunday (coupled with Washington loss or tie).

A tie with Pittsburgh and a loss by Washington also hands us the division crown.

Sooo ... go birds and go Saints!

And while we're at it ... go Bills, go Bears (and go Browns because F the Chiefs!!).

And further ... go Packers! (couldn't hurt to root for them to beat the Seahawks to give us even more cushion for that 2 seed)

Still sitting at the 2 seed with the W yesterday against the Steelers

Lions losing to the Bills evens our records so still a chance at that 1 seed (we need to win out and them drop 1 more).

The Commanders beating the Saints yesterday means the NFCE crown is still officially up for grabs.  Hopefully we take care of business next weekend - beat Washington and we win the division ... simple as that.

This game is a perfect example why the Eagles really need to get that bye week. So many little nagging injuries and it’s very likely they will need to play this out to the end. That loss to Atlanta really hurts right now and unfortunately the Eagles do not control their own destiny. This team got a very early bye week. That playoff bye week could be a tremendous help, because the win streak they will need to be on to win out would be legendary.

Do Minnesota hold the tie break over us too? Because one of them or Detroit are going to lose again (or potentially tie).

Pretty positive that only Detroit has the advantage over us if we have the same record.

hoping Detroit loses again they only beat the Bears by 3 on thanksgiving in Detroit and that game should have been tied in the final minute.. let’s hope the Bears can put up that type of effort at home Sunday!

Vikes hold strength of victory. We need both teams to drop 1 more and the Eagles need to win out to get the 1 seed

So I think we need the Lions to drop one more prior to the Vikings game.

if both teams win prior to then, the winner of that game will get the 1 seed.

If the Vikings drop one of their next 3 and Lions win their next 2, then I’m pretty sure Lions have tiebreaker, so Vikes would likely rest their starters having 4th or 5th seed locked down.

One step closer now. Just sayin'.

Yesterday was a huge step toward that goal.  The Bills beating Detroit was huge … beating the Steelers even more so (that was a very good showing … for the most part … against a very strong team, a legit contender).

Even though the overall records are now even, Detroit still holds the conference record tiebreaker over us.  Still have to hope we win out and they drop one more.  But like you said … one step closer!  :flex:

I can see the Vikings and Lions both losing 2 more games. Vikings would lose to Packers and Lions in their last 2, while Lions lose their next two on the road.

Don't you mean win out?
