Clinching a Playoff Spot (The Quest for the 1 Seed ... is it Better to Have the 2 Seed?)

Featured Replies

Thought it was a long shot anyway. I’m fine with the 2 seed. My only concern yesterday, today and going forward is injuries. If this team gets and stays healthy, they’ve got as good a shot as anyone, and better than most.

Yes agreed, but 1 seed was unlikely anyway.
Let’s just hope Hurts can come back next week, we take care of the Cowboys and then give everyone a rest in week 18

Agreed 1 seed wasn’t likely (but still gotta hope the cards fall your way when the possibility exists).  Still, would have been nice to wrap up the division and minimally lock in that 2 seed today.  So many opportunities to do so today and they found every conceivable way to give it away.  This one is gonna hurt for a while.

They can’t if they don’t have the #2 locked up though bud. #2 and having week 18 off is a must.

As I said, I don't care what seed they are. So they "can" rest the starters if they care more about that then the #2 seed. We will also see how things play out, how injury recovery is going. My point is, I'm not concerned about home field advantage. They can beat anyone. I'd prefer them healthy and rested. They had an early bye this year.

You don’t care? I want no part of going on the road beyond the first round of the play offs.

This team has been very good on the road this year. If they are healthy, which they weren't for both road losses, they can win anywhere, including Detroit or Minnesota, which would be the only two possibilities of where they'd go on the road to play.

Only if they get the #2 seed otherwise every game will be on the road.

I know you've taken on the chicken little role in recent years for some odd reason, but this team is not losing out. Relax.

He specifically said he doesn’t care what seed we have.  We have a playoff spot locked in so nothing is a "must” if you don’t care about seeding.

Yeah I get that… but going on the road for potentially 3 games in the play offs? No ta.

I’m not suggesting we are going to lose 3 straight but I mean could we lose next week if Jalen is out? Absolutely. And then we have to play the starters the last week which means no rest.

Lions probably gonna win out anyway so all the wish on a star stuff was probably going to be moot point at the end of the day.  Only thing today's loss does is force the Eagles to rest starters in week 18, which is the smarter move anyway cause really don't see the Lions letting go of that 1 seed.

Let’s hope Minnesota win next week and then to and shock Detroit. I still do not fear Minnesota and still feel like they are a bit fraudulent.

Of course you want the highest seed possible. Saying "I don't care" means confidence, that the team wins on the road and can beat anyone in the NFC. I don’t stress about playoff seeding, just win.

Eagles lost, but also won in my book because they escaped without major injuries. They have crap to figure out on defense, but if they stay healthy nobody in the NFC is beating them.

They get the blessing of being locked in to 2 early, and after next week they can rest vs the Giants.

If the Lions get the 1 there is a good chance they lose their first with all the injuries and we still host.

One seed is virtually gone, but the two seed is locked in with one more loss by the Commies or a win by the Eagles. Soon as one of those two things happens the Eagles probably should try and rest people. I know they probably want to get that record for Barkley, but a healthy Barkley for the playoffs is way more important.

Oh no I get what you are saying and yes this team is a good road team who can beat anyone on their turf. But I just don’t agree with "I don’t care”. You may not but I want this team to get some HFA and without it I don’t think we go to the SB.

I still think it is better to know before the last game that the 1st seed is out of the reach so we can rest our starters in the last game, than having some theoretical hope that would prevent you resting your starters and not getting it anyway while getting some critical injuries in the last game. That is why I am not even mad we lost vs Commies....It is a good slap for us not to get too cocky and full of ourselves

As I clarified, of course we would want the highest seed possible. you're stuck on "I don't care" it was just a confidence statement. Like teams saying "I don't care who we play, just go out and win!"

He obviously has zero confidence in the team unless they are lights out every game. He does this after every loss or even close game.  Wonder if he cancelled his trip to philly for the super bowl yet 🤣🤣

You don't agree with his opinion ... noted.

For the record, I believe in the path of least resistance to yield the best chance possible (which obviously means HFA so therefore highest seed possible), but seems kinda pointless to repeatedly challenge others that feel otherwise.  Having HFA only means likely a better chance ... for sure we can win throughout without HFA (and for sure we could lose even if we had HFA ... anything is possible).

This isn't baseball, having the bye and having to win just 2 games at home is a huge advantage.  2017, 2022 should tell you that alone.  Nope, as long as they have a shot at the #1 seed, you go for it.  Once that is eliminated, rest the starters (assuming the 2 seed is locked).

too many times have i seen teams come out flat out of the bye. you can rest players without a bye towards the end of the season. hopefully thats what they do now.

Agreed...they have come too far these past two years getting to the playoffs...they are hungry

One more win by the Eagles clinches NFC East and #2 seed.
#1 seed and bye is a longshot.

Everyone's talking about Washington but Eagles could end up playing GB if they lose to the Vikings this weekend. If they lose to the Vikes they may just rest that final week to go in healthy and may not care if they drop a seed.

Right now they'd have to face the Rams if everything ended today.

Anyway, everyone should root for the whiners and Packers this weekend!
