he masked gunman who stalked and killed the leader of one of the largest U.S. health insurance companies on a Manhattan sidewalk used ammunition emblazoned with the words "deny,” "defend” and "depose,” a law enforcement official said Thursday.

The official was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the ongoing investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, died in a dawn ambush Wednesday as he walked to the company’s annual investor conference at a Hilton hotel in Midtown, blocks from tourist draws like Radio City Music Hall and the Museum of Modern Art.

The words on the ammunition may have been a reference to strategies insurance companies use to try to avoid paying claims.

Investigators recovered several 9 mm shell casings from outside the hotel and a cellphone from the alleyway through which the shooter fled, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny had said earlier.

The killing and the shooter’s movements in the minutes before and afterward were captured on some of the multitudes of security cameras present in that part of the city.

Surprised it hasn't happened sooner and will not be surprised if it happens again.

The Maga killer awoke before dawn...

Apparently UHC had the highest denial rate at 32% and this guy is worth tens of millions of dollars. Guessing you make a lot of enemies that way. That's a lot of people the investigators will likely have to go through.

On the 2021 phone call, which was recorded by the company, nurse Victoria Kavanaugh told her colleague that a doctor contracted by United to review the case had concluded that McNaughton’s treatment was "not medically necessary.” Her colleague, Dave Opperman, reacted to the news with a long laugh.

Garbage. Absolute garbage.

Sad thing is, for every time an insurance scumbag denied a claim, there were probably 10 instances where some scumbag committed insurance fraud.

Clearly it's hurting their bottom line.

Oh, nevermind I guess.

Yeah I would think health insurance fraud would be one of the more difficult ones to pull off as you need a licensed doctor to conspire with, thus potentially risking their license to practice. Not saying that there aren't plenty of shady ass doctors out there doing exactly that right now, but it's probably far more rare than almost any other type of insurance fraud.

They won't approve valid claims, they sure as hell aren't letting fraudulent ones through.

Don't mind me, I'm just here for the memes

Yeah, a former journalist posted the name/picture of the CEO of BlueCross and she was getting crap for that.

They're all crap, but United was absolutely one of if not the worst in the US when it came to denials. Fing scumbags.

This decision is absolutely insane though. Rushing a surgical procedure where you run into complications will 100% cause an increase in deaths. It's an insane thing to try to pull even by **** insurance company standards.

I didn't realize Aetna was so high too. One out of every five. How Fing pathetic these companies are.

I sure hope this isn't the beginning of class warfare. If they start with the CEOs of multi-billion dollar companies, zero-turn owners can't be far behind. Curse my bottomless appetite for the finer things in life!
