This really cuts to the heart of it for me. Leaving aside all the media noise (and there are some media people who take a strange delight in setting fire to things for no good reason, just for craps and giggles) Hurts is playing within himself in the passing game. He´s gone very conservative in which throws he will try and which ones give him the twitch.

He doesn´t have to become a gunslinger like Brett Favre, but he has to accept that turnovers happen, learn to live with it, and go back to being a bit more of a playmaker.

Thing is though… We all keep saying at some point he’s going to need to throw it more and with better consistency but does he? Nobody can stop our run game it would seem and our defense is really good. Maybe that day will come but then maybe this year it doesn’t? It hasn’t so far and we have the second longest active winning streak.

I think if we happen to get into a shootout like that Rams Bills game we are going to need a much stronger passing performance from Hurts.  It really boils down to being more efficient in that area ... making the throws that are there (to wide open receivers that he is missing) and not being so afraid to air it out to avoid INTs.  But he also needs to be smarter with some of those throws.  Earlier in the year he was airing it out but to receivers that were in tight double or at times triple coverage.  If you're going to attempt those you damn well better place the ball where the chances of being intercepted are minimized (there was just horrible placement on some of those earlier throws).

Nothing should change from the winning formula. We're coming off a game where we had our fewest passing yards, but that is unlikely to become the norm. We average twice that much per game. That, this season, is the norm. I think possibly an interesting comparison is the 1998 Broncos. They had Terrell Davis who had a 2000 yard season and feeding him the ball was the key to their successful year. Here's a look at Elway's numbers that season:

That seems to be the game plan? That’s what they’ve pretty much done for 9 games now and they’ve won them all. They relied heavily on Saquon against New Orleans and he was instrumental against Green Bay? So yeah I’d say that’s the game plan.

But that doesn’t mean the pass game can’t be better. It needs to be better regardless of the opponent and what is happening in the game. Even in some of our bigger offensive performances the pass game at times hasn’t been great and consistent so yeah it needs to be better. But doesn’t absolutely mean we can’t go the distance playing this way.

Exactly!  The way that game played out gave me serious 2023 vibes...and that includes the "lucky drop" by Legette.  

There's no way we will keep pace with the better offenses in the playoffs, especially Detroit, with the current version of our passing game.

Agreed.  I’ve stated numerous times that if we get into a shooting match like that Rams Bills game the passing game will need to be much better.  But I also don’t think the passing game can’t be where it needs to be if that situation arises … I just think we haven’t really needed it to be more than it has been (recently).  I think if Jalen was forced to air it out those passing numbers would be where we want them to be (perhaps at the expense of an INT here and there).  But I don’t know that the other concern with the passing game (not seeing wide open receivers because he isn’t scanning the entire field) is something we’ll ever see corrected in his game.

theres def something wrong when everytime he drops back hes holding it long enough to where i am yelling at him to just throw it away every single time. watching competent qbs make a quick drop back and hit a reciever for positive yards is so frustrating

wed be up multiple scores if we had a decent pass attack, the run game takes too long to score and we wind up in close games weekly thanks to slow starts. we have 0, 0 first drive touchdowns and i think maybe a total of 3 points from our first drive this year, smh

we just eeked out a win against a 3-8 team or whatever they are...we dont have the luxury in the playoffs, if we get down 2 scores to any of those teams we can kiss the superbowl goodbye because we cannot score fast enough or often enough to keep up between 0 opening drive tds and our inability to move the ball in the passing game

The Bucs needed overtime to  beat that same team. The Chiefs a last second FG to avoid overtime. It wasn’t pretty on Sunday but we won. And FWIW I was worried all week it would be an ugly sort of win.

As far as I know, Jalen and AJ are friends. It appears that Brown is frustrated and this isn't the first time that's happened as an Eagle. The last time was supposedly about targets. So it's reasonable to think that it's the same thing again. The difference is we have a legit MVP candidate in Barkley that is eating up potential pass targets and the success around his touches doesn't really provide reason to limit those and feed AJ more. Everybody, especially the captains of the team, should be on board with winning. 

So today, he did clarify his comment. I, for one, appreciate what he said today. Very professional.

Yeah I think he did a good job there and I think that’s gone some way to quietening the noise around this team. It’ll still be there and if Sunday the passing issues continue it’ll come back yet again but for now hopefully this helps to focus on a big game.

The players can say whatever they want now ... it all just seems like a concerted effort (along with the journalists like Clark that cover the team) to walk back those comments BG made, to try to put the toothpaste back in the tube.  The proof won't come until we see how they play ... if they continue to play winning ball like they have been over the past 2 1/2 months (and not watch the wheels fall off like they did last year) then we can assume everything is fine (or fine enough).  Fingers crossed everything is fine - would hate to see such a promising season implode once again.

I dont think this team will implode like last year mostly because i dont see this defense all of a sudden falling apart. There will be games where they might nit be as dominant but, thats just football. The offense on the other hand may implode but, i dont see it there either not as long as Barkley is there.

I think the same (on both).  Just saying though, the real proof will be what we see when they play ... not by the comments everyone is making now while in damage control mode.

I just think 2023 is still very fresh to us all as fans. And the Carolina game and the apparent mood after the game felt very 2023esque. Add to that the AJ comments and I think it’s just got some of us a little bit on edge.

Meh, i forgot about 2023 week one. Every year is new and different. They are allowed to have not so great games along the way without it turning into 2023. Im starting to think this was another overblown situation.

Oh I agree they can’t play well every single week. There will be weeks that we struggle. There will be weeks we play better and still lose. I’m just saying we all remember how 2023 was and I think on Sunday there were similarities.

After last year's collapse, BG and Brown thinks the team needs this kind of childish BS at this stage of the year....after winning 8 straight? Fin shut up, concentrate and play ball.
