iladelphxx Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Can someone please tell me what the difference is between Kaboni Savage and the three inmates whose sentences he didn't commute? (Dylan Roof, the Tree of Life Shooter and the Boston Marathon Bomber) Kaboni Savage was convicted of 12 murders, including 4 kids who died in a firebomb attack on the house of a Federal Witness. This guy was basically the Marlo Stanfield of the Philadelphia drug trade and is responsible for dozens, if not hundreds of deaths. If anyone deserves the Death Penalty, it's him. At this point, I'm convinced his staffers who are running the Country are just putt pieces of paper in front of him and he's just signing them without knowing what they are.
JohnSnowsHair Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Commuting isn't the same as pardoning. But yeah this is dumb. 1
Gannan Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 If anyone on death row deserves to have their death sentence revoked its Robert Roberson. Makes no sense. 1
Gannan Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 The state shouldn’t be executing anyone so… 1 1 2
DEagle7 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 That's one helluva murderer name. That was probably the reason
VaBeach_Eagle Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Pardons are a constitutional power granted to the President, so that's that. Only an amendment could alter that. So what about an amendment where pardons/commutations can be overridden by a super majority in Congress? Rarely does one party have a super majority, so in almost all cases where it would come up, it would be bipartisan and only the most egregious cases could possibly be overridden. So any pardon/commutation wouldn't be valid until a specified amount of time goes by, giving Congress the opportunity to review it and if deemed necessary, step in and override it (or try to). In the recent flurry, I don't think the Hunter pardon would be, but maybe some of these death sentence cases would be.

I agree, murder is wrong, I think anyone would agree. An execution is not murder. A definition of murder from Wikipedia: Murder is the unlawful killing of another human without justification or valid excuse. It sounds like Kaboni Savage's execution would be lawful and easily justified. I don't know about the others. I don't know about at the federal level but people in Pennsylvania sentenced to life without parole are sometimes paroled, albeit after quite some time served.
PoconoDon Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 As long as the a-hole dies in that cell, it's fine. 1

Ok, taking a human life is wrong, even when it is state sponsored. Feel better now? 1

I said it before and I’ll say it again: there needs to be more capital punishment, not less, and I set the line at jaywalking. Anything less severe than jaywalking just gets prison time. 1
