But Trump 😪

I just heard a live interview with a 35yr career fire fighter.  He said the fire in Malibu in '93 was exactly the same as this one in terms of the way the fire behaved as well as the lack of water in the hydrants.  He was astounded that nothing had been improved in over 30 years.

Yes.   And that was also not allowed.

I will say I did say the first two new ones with Chris Pine and they were decent.

Which are you hating, all iterations, specific series or specific movies?

I hated the reboot movies, so much potential wasted by hiring the wrong director. In 1979, I loved the first movie but after the second one came out, I came to see the first movie in a much different light and now see it as one of the weak links. The fifth movie was really bad too. The third one was ok, but the second and fourth were really good (for different reasons).

The first TNG movie was good, not great. But ok. The second one was really good, but after that they progressively went downhill and the final one was just bad.

I always knew they wouldn't do it, but I'd always hoped for a DS9 movie, which was my favorite series.

Speaking of the series, I thought that Enterprise was good and was on the verge of getting really good, if they'd been renewed for a 5th season. I believe that the addition of "Shran" as a regular cast member would have been a big improvement. The episodes that he was in were some of the best episodes.

I almost followed it with "cue dorks quoting the movie as a rebuke”.  It happens EVERY TIME

The Wrath of Khan is my favorite by far.  I also very much enjoyed The Search for Spock.

I was REALLY into computers at a young age, so as a counter balance to make sure I would grow up somewhat normal I was encouraged to go outside and participate in sports  🤷‍♂️

Nope.  One time when I was young I was flipping around and stopped on star trek and my mother wasn't having it.

Star wars, since it was a movie, wasn't technically banned, but I wasn't taken to see it or anything like that growing up.  The first time I saw the original trilogy* was in college and one of my frat brothers who was also my roommate was a huge star wars nerd.  He got tickets to opening night for Episode 1 and decided to take me along, but not before making me watch the original trilogy.  We made a pledge hold our place in line while we hung out at a bar across the street and watch nerds have light saber fights.

*Technically I saw part of Return of the Jedi when we were on vacation, but my parents didn't keep it on the tv.

I liked The Search for Spock too, it wasn't as good as Khan, and The Voyage Home was more fun, but The Search for Spock is a solid movie. Of the original series movies, one and five are the weak links. I'll watch the first one maybe once per 20 years, but I likely won't ever watch the fifth ever again.

More or less predictable than pretending watching a movie and playing sports/going are mutually exclusive activities?

You haven't mentioned 6.

I've always found it underrated.

It's actually one of my favorites.

I enjoyed 6 also, solid movie that I could watch again from time to time (unlike 5 and 10). I wouldn't rank it above 2 or 4. Maybe equal with 3.

I love the Star Trek movies especially Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock. Since paco enjoyed the re-boots I made him watch some of the older ones but he pretended he wasn’t into them.

You’re missing the point. Anything deemed nerdy was discouraged.
