January 12Jan 12 I don't see how Gavin Newsome survives this politically. Too many people wiped out. They'll be voting for the person who is most likely to be better at putting their lives back together again. These are state leaders who do things that are basic - like support infrastructure. Local leaders who will expedite building permits. I saw that Newsome asked Trump to come out. Trump has been correct in ignoring him. I remember during Covid how the federal government made a hospital ship available in LA that pretty much just sat in waste at the harbor. No way Trump falls for that again. Oh, he'll go there. But under his terms, and not to provide cover for Newsome to save face when his bs helped cause this mess. Newsome's career should go down with the flames that are burning in LA. Just too many lives turned upside down. As for Karen Bass, no way she gets re-elected. She may get recalled, and rightfully so. The 2024 election showed us that the country is fed up with woke, incompetent and corrupt Democrats. These wild fires are a perfect example of what can happen in extreme circumstances when they get in control.

Solo was pretty bad but fun for us dweebs who enjoy a nostalgic circle jerk. The newer stuff has gone the way of Marvel were you only fully understand everything going on if you've watched a bunch of other series (eg Mandalorian and The Clone Wars, Ashoka and Rebels). So it's really only for the diehards.

I’m sure once he’s in office it’ll be high on the list of visits. He came out for the 18 Paradise fire…spur of the moment. Lots of fun for me picking up a day shift that day since everyone’s kids schools were getting closed. On 3 hours of sleep it was a joy coordinating a Presidential visit at 3 am after my normal swing the day prior.

January 12Jan 12 Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass demanded an additional $49 million in budget cuts to the already cash-strapped Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) just days before wildfires ravaged the city. This ill-timed decision, revealed in a leaked internal memo obtained by the Daily Mail, has sparked outrage among current and former fire officials who say the move left the department woefully unprepared for disaster. The memo, dated January 6—merely a day before the Palisades Fire ravaged the region—proposed shutting down 16 fire stations across the city, slashing resources critical for combating wildfires and responding to emergencies. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/01/leaked-memo-exposes-incompetent-la-mayor-karen-bass/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR26QXvIGhueSGJoinsnZJtZVK8DHOa30tgnPGw_vulMhpfWya_WkV4UyNQ_aem_rCJSqXX8VsTHtoqTYEpvbg

I hated the reboot movies, so much potential wasted by hiring the wrong director. In 1979, I loved the first movie but after the second one came out, I came to see the first movie in a much different light and now see it as one of the weak links. The fifth movie was really bad too. The third one was ok, but the second and fourth were really good (for different reasons). The first TNG movie was good, not great. But ok. The second one was really good, but after that they progressively went downhill and the final one was just bad. I always knew they wouldn't do it, but I'd always hoped for a DS9 movie, which was my favorite series. Speaking of the series, I thought that Enterprise was good and was on the verge of getting really good, if they'd been renewed for a 5th season. I believe that the addition of "Shran" as a regular cast member would have been a big improvement. The episodes that he was in were some of the best episodes. I just found it all very boring. If I'm being fair, I probably never gave Star Trek a fair chance.

Star wars, since it was a movie, wasn't technically banned, but I wasn't taken to see it or anything like that growing up. The first time I saw the original trilogy* was in college and one of my frat brothers who was also my roommate was a huge star wars nerd. He got tickets to opening night for Episode 1 and decided to take me along, but not before making me watch the original trilogy. We made a pledge hold our place in line while we hung out at a bar across the street and watch nerds have light saber fights. *Technically I saw part of Return of the Jedi when we were on vacation, but my parents didn't keep it on the tv. What was her reasoning exactly?

But that is probably the future and could lead to a career*, so lets minimize the dorktitude and encourage him to be social (sports, activities, etc)". So they much rather have me out playing sports and being part of clubs to round me out. Never forced a particular sport on me, but I had to play at least 1 sport of my choice every year. *My dad told me in 6th grade I was going to go to college, major in math and minor in Computer Science, so this is a bit more than speculation. (I ended up starting out ComSci, but ended up with a degree in Information Systems and Technology and a minor in general business) To be completely fair, they did encourage my interest in computers. When it started they couldn't afford one but fortunately my dad was a computer salesman and brought home floor models for me to play on on the weekends. Then when I was 8 santa got me an IBM PC JR. (That lasted a year or two before my dad got me the original IBM PC (8088)
