When I was in 9th grade I started going on BBS's and they were talking about Dungeons and Dragons on one of them.  I mentioned that I wanted to go to a store to check it out and my mom lost her s***

Trump and Maga will end FEMA. There will be no federal money to help the victims in a blue state. Money will only be used for Red States. MAGA.

Eh that community note is misleading.  Any charitable organization nowadays offers the user the choice to cover the transaction fee.  If you donate directly to the LAFD in the link provided, they ask if you want to pay an additional 2.9% to cover the processing fee.  So how is this any different?

Because it's directly funneling money to democrat campaign funds and not just an upcharge to cover credit card fees?

And before you hit me with "how do you know that's not just the processing fee" I will ask you why not point people directly to the LA county fire department foundation and United Way of Greater LA instead?

She’s gonna deposit everyone’s money into her checking account

If ActBlue is taking the fee that would normally cover the credit card costs for these donations and instead funneling it to democrat campaign funds, then they'd be losing money every time someone donates.  That cost has to be covered somewhere, there is no free lunch.

The link she posted allows a person to make 1 donation, and then ActBlue splits donation evenly between the two organizations she listed (or you can customize the % split).  So basically offering convenience instead of making 2 separate donations.

Interesting it is a whole percentage point higher.

Contributions made through ActBlue to charities are processed by AB Charities, and include a 3.95% fee that goes toward the cost of processing contributions, according to ActBlue. Processing fees from AB Charities do not go to political candidates, according to the group.

So while I probably jumped the gun on saying it goes to the campaigns, I would bet that the extra 1% goes toward maintaining the Act Blue platform.

Again, they should have just linked directly to the actual charities and not funnel it through their own organization.

Different sites have different processing fees.  I'm running a charity golf outing to raise money for my kid's school, the processing fee for the site we're using is 3.9%.  Like pretty much all these other websites, when someone makes a payment, a pop up box asks them if they want to cover the processing fee or not.

By the way, if you donate directly to the United Way of LA using their site, their processing fee is 11%.

So like I said, different sites have different processing fees.  This isn't some scheme to try to funnel money to democrats.

Ok, but in the grand scheme of things, what is better:

Someone donating $50 to one directly and $50 to the other directly with a 2.9% surcharge

or

Someone donating $100 once with a 3.9% surcharge for "convenience"

There is no reason to go through actblue any way you dice it.

But as I just pointed out, the LAFD site is a 2.9% surcharge, the United Way site is an 11% surcharge. (edit: that was for a $10 donation.  I put in a $100 donation and it reduces the fee to an 8% rate. Still significantly higher than others, but looks like the larger the donation, the smaller the fee).

The community notes are actually #fakenews in this case, as they are implying that Warren is trying to use ActBlue to siphon off money from people's donations to send to the democratic party, which is absolute rubbish.

I didn't look into it further than what I read in a few articles, so thank you for looking into that closely by actually trying different levels of donations.  You convinced me, that note was fake news.

And I get what you’re saying, why not just link directly to the two separate sites.  I imagine that she has many followers who are already regular contributors to Actblue in which case it’s probably like a 1 click contribution process as their cc information is probably already saved with the site.  Maybe thats why she linked to the act blue page, who knows.
