I just found it all very boring. If I'm being fair, I probably never gave Star Trek a fair chance.

I grew up with it, literally from almost day 1 (one the final three original episodes aired 5 days after I was born). My father used to tell me that he watched the final few original episodes while holding an infant me. Then there were afternoon re-runs in the 70's and the Star Trek toys for Christmas.

My friends and I even used to play "Star Trek" when we were growing up. At the foot of the steps leading up to my home, there were six slabs of granite (or some other sort of stone), and those were our Transporter pads lol.

If you ever watch, TNG might be your best bet for 'getting into it', unless you're into serial type shows where there's a continuing underlying story each episode. Then DS9, which is my favorite of them all. I've read that Babylon Five is better than DS9, but I've never watched it.

And I get what you’re saying, why not just link directly to the two separate sites.  I imagine that she has many followers who are already regular contributors to Actblue in which case it’s probably like a 1 click contribution process as their cc information is probably already saved with the site.  Maybe thats why she linked to the act blue page, who knows.

And you know what.... if ActBlue has some sort of way of reducing the United Ways charges through some existing agreement, good on them.

Every year on graduation we would host parents for all of our brothers at my frat house to bbq and socialize called "Parents Tea".  Mine were in the basement playing beer pong with the rest of the guys every year.  (usually my dad and I were a team and (here come the jokes) my mom would team up with one of the brothers)

So you're not far off

Yeah, have to think that ActBlue is accumulating the donations, and then writing a check to the two organizations?  Otherwise, they'd incur processing fees of their own if they were to then try to make an online donation using the money that they've received.    Also, I've never seen an adjustable rate fee for donations, that's new to me.  Usually it's always a straight forward x% processing fee.  Not sure why the United Way one is so high.   I think most of the time, people are fine with just checking the box that they'll cover the 3-4% processing fee, but when it's in the 8-10% range, I could see some people balking at that.

Of course it was an illegal alien. Jesus, is there any ounce of this story that doesn't make democrats look like the complete clowns we know they are?

Let's say that someone whose home burned to the ground and had fire insurance, gets their payout and wants to rebuild but state regulations are so restrictive that it would cost double or more than their insurance payout gave them. Also suppose that the home owner had no mortgage, so the house is 100% paid off and nothing is owed.

It might be a better option for them to go to Nevada or some other nearby state (or even a far away state), and buy land and build there or just buy an already built home. Prices in L.A. are so high that if their insurance payout is in line with what the market value was, they should be able to buy or build something in another state for a fraction of their payout and bank the rest.

Unless they would be required to re-build in the same location as opposed to taking the money and running. Go on, take the money and run...

How fires start has very little to do with climate change, but the spread of much larger and devastating fires absolutely does.

We surveyed 20 people day-drinking in Bass Pro shop parking lot and most of them disagree though. So clearly it doesn't.

Best part about it is they're all Canadian planes (according to the comments)

I guess insurance companies (or others who profit from insurance), are trying to take advantage of the fires. I'm starting to get spam emails for fire insurance.
