Conversely, more teams will get in on the free agent bidding wars and the market value for all positions is getting a bigger reset. In a way, it's all relative for new contracts, but when something like this happens it makes all the contracts currently on the books better values than they may have seemed initially.

That’s very true but I guess as you say it pushes up the contract values too? A higher cap leads to more cap space and the players asking for more money as a result.
February 22Feb 22 I’m afraid to say I think out of the big FA’s, they only resign Baun. I think they feel they can replace Becton, Williams and Sweat with Steen, Ojomo and Hunt. Howie loves to play the Comp pick game and probably feels we have great depth at those positions (which they do). If they think Becton can bump outside to RT maybe they figure a way to keep him as an eventual replacement for Lane.

They really only have two. They will draft one for sure, but they will need at least one other vet.

We’re stuck with Huff who was horrible last year but maybe after a year in the system he’ll develop. They’ll probably draft a DE in the 1st or 2nd or maybe trade for one of the best 😀. We’ll be fine at DE.

That would seem to be Howie’s typical MO but with having just won it all (that’ll NEVER get old saying!!) and a good chance to repeat with the current roster, he may stray from his usual practice and try to run it back for a chance at another. We shall see.

Lane kept playing, Steen was tried at RG. Then Becton emerged, won and played well at RG. If you consider both RG and RT positions, we need 2 players to fill them and may end up keeping both guys. If they like and take a RT from the draft, then they would decide whom to keep at RG with an option as back-up at RT until the rookie is ready.

Steen had a high ankle sprain in the beginning of camp and so … Becton was out there.

Steen was drafted as a guard, not a tackle. https://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/video/tyler-steen-2023-nfl-draft-eagles-the-pick-is-in He took reps at guard at the Senior Bowl and elevated his draft stock. The versatility is always a plus for depth purposes, but he was never seen as Johnson's future replacement. Stoutland wants Steen to play guard and that's where he's had virtually all his practice and playing reps over the last 2 years. When the Eagles feel Lane is considering retirement, they will draft a replacement then --- not two years ago. In fact, if you listened to Lane's parade speech, he said he was looking forward to many more seasons. Lane loves playing football.
