The offensive line got us to the SB. It allowed Barkley to run wild. The biggest loss was Becton. I am hoping that they can find a starter that's better then just capable. If not, this offense may struggle if there is a weak link in the line. Mbye a 6.6 323 pound Myles Hynton can challenge Steen for the job.

The new Practice Squad rules have changed that prioritization. Being able to elevate active players 47 and 48 has made a huge difference. Roster positions 53 and 52 as a result have become much more about potential than experience.

Good question. Good comment.

Did I miss another new rule, or have you merely mis-stated a recent change...where practice squad players may be actvated on game-day twice each season and returned w/o requiring to pass through waivers? That rule, and the 45 active plus an emergency QB (PURDY) are the most recent I am aware that have been approved.

Anyway, that was just one of many factors - injuries being significant - that will influence the overall constitution of a roster during the course of a season. That was my point.

Not a new rule. 46 (not 45) active players is the default, but it can be either 47 or 48 depending on the O-Line player count. As you pointed out two of the Active players can be Practice Squad call ups, so effectively the roster isn't 53 but rather 69 (53 plus the 16 Practice Squad).

In addition there is a new rule this year, which allows teams the ability to place two players on injured reserve at the roster cutdown deadline to return during the season. That has not been the case in the past. It used to be that if a player went on injured reserve before the active 53-man roster is set, he was out for the season.

So the 53-man cut down can be more than 53 ... as much as 55. Plus a player who is on the PUP throughout Training Camp and the Preseason does not count against either the 53 or the 2. So Dean could be in that situation.

Thanks for the response. The clarification is really appreciated...it's hard to keep up with all the changes. It just magnifies the need for a stable of qualified backups at a team's disposal.

So, I would then think that the last few roster spots would then be reserved for your most prized developmental prospects (to protect from pilferage).

That is my thinking. Players like Toth and Pryor and Lamm and Kinnard can be used from the Practice Squad just as easily as they can from a 53-man roster spot. The only problems with that are that (1) the player has to be willing to sign with a PS contract, (2) the player can be poached by another team either before getting to the Practice Squad or while on the Practice Squad, and (3) they can only be elevated three times in the regular season.

I only recall one player grabbed off our PS in the last 2 seasons.

In 2024 we lost OC Dylan McMahon in September by the Rams OLB Patrick Johnson in September by the Giants and TE Jack Stoll in November by the Dolphins. I don’t have any info for 2023 one way or the other.

EDIT: We lost OC Julian Good-Jones in November 2023 to the Commanders and LB Christian Elliss in December to the Patriots

Dylan was who I recalled...thought he might have a future. The rest were basically JAGs (you win some, you lose some).

Technically we didn't lose Stoll or Johnson off the PS, they were both claimed off Waivers.

Good-Jones is an illustration of the issues with the system, the Commies signed him off our practice squad, gave him exactly 2 snaps in a wk 18 game and then signed him to their practice squad.

Elliss actually signed a new contract with the Pats this off season, looks like he may be another Alex Singleton and carve out a decent career as a solid depth LB.

Chargers’ schedule release video is great as always, and it had a hidden captcha code:

It disappears after a few frames so its "blink and you missed it”

Which then leads to this

If you pick chargers, it goes to the schedule. But if you pick Raiders….

To make room for Robinson, they dumped the WR they signed the day before.

I feel sorry for the WR dude, because he probably got all excited about the try out with the champions...only to be told Sorry.

He was here for such a short time...it could not possibly be anything he did.

Eagles acquire CB Jakorian Bennett from the Raiders via trade for DT Thomas Booker IV.

image.png image.png

Bennett is only 24 years old - drafted in the 4th round in 2023 so under control on rookie contract for 2 more seasons.

I liked Booker but we had solid depth at iDL and no one seems to be running away in the competition for that CB2 spot so this seems like a win for both teams.

Appreciate the detailed tracker—lots of roster churn this offseason. Some solid depth signings and a few interesting trades; curious to see which of these moves stick by Week 1.

I'm really liking what I see from Eagles Undrafted FA RB Montrell Johnson Jr from Florida. Good size, 4.4 speed, not much tread on the tires. Not really a juking/creative type back, but he's a big play, violent, patient runner when the blocking is solid (Cue Eagles OL). Wouldn't shock me one bit if this dude ends not only making the team but competes for the primary backup role to Saquon.

Montrell Johnson Jr Highlights

Montrell Johnson Jr. looks strong and fast, and with the right blocking, he could be a real weapon behind Saquon. Excited to see him in action!
