Really need Huff to step the F up this upcoming season. He always seemed to low effort whenever I saw him out there

Rodgers and Burks were affordable, so they were strategic about letting them walk. Fangio knows what he wants, and doesn't. They have a plan for free agency and the draft.

This staff has been outstanding at recognizing and training up players. There is a ton of amazing work in each of those stories below from both the players and the staff. I'm a little nervous as I think most fans are at watching this defense be signed away. However, they deserve the payday we can't afford to give them and we just have to trust in this staff to do the unimaginable again.

1. Baun - Special teams player
2. Dean - Backup player
3. Milton Williams - back up player (1.5 sacks last year)
4. Mitchell - Rookie corner starting - never happens
5. Cooper Dejean - Rookie corner starting - never happens
6. Becton - Cast off lineman
7. Burks - He stepped up when his number was called and played very well in the playoffs

Agreed.  When Dean went down the defense didn't really miss a beat with Burks in his place.  I was also hoping to bring him back ... whether Dean is ready or not depth is needed (especially with BVS having suffered a season-ending knee injury in late November ... hard to know if he'll be ready to go to start the season).  After Baun and Trot we don't really have much else on the DC, so signing him would have seemed to be a logical move.  But perhaps we did extend an offer and he chose to sign elsewhere with possibly a better chance to be a full time starter (similar to Baun leaving NO).  

Wasn't anything I hadn't expected, Williams was a huge overpay so I'm hoping Becton is in Howie's sights..would've liked to bring back Rodgers ...he's probably one that I'm most upset we weren't able to bring back...I know there are some guys out there for us..have to wait til the $$$ calm down.

Have to assume they are still talking to Slay - he hasn't signed anything with Pittsburgh (or elsewhere) yet.  Technically he is still under contract with us until his release is official.  Since he is entering the final year of his deal with a cap hit of $13.7M they could be trying to negotiate a new deal that would lower that cap hit.

Rumor has it they are going to continue to look to add another veteran QB.  Their overall plan doesn't seem to make much sense but then again, it is the Browns so ... 

It is also worth noting that dealing Pickett yields $2.6M in cap savings (no dead money).

Pickett along with Bradberry are the only losses from the roster so far that I wouldn't question in the slightest.

I think it’s more so slay needs to wait to sign elsewhere than anything else. Once he can id assume he signs day 1 with the Steelers. I don’t see us bringing him back. He was going to make like 14 million. We cut him with a dead cap of 10 and 4 million in savings. Unless we are signing him for under 4 million what would be the point in cutting him in the first place?

$1.5M in cap savings  because we picked up Dorian Thompson-Robinson's $1.1M contract

I could potentially see us only picking once in the 5th round! Using one 5th to trade up. Converting one 5th to a 4th next year. And trading down with one 5th for a 6th and a 7th.

Exactly. That's what this FA period is all about. I heard this a.m. that Sweat signing could net us a 3rd pick and the Williams one a 4th round pick. Those other players like Rodgers could net us a 6th. That is if Howie doesn't sign anyone with a big contract to negate the Sweat bounty. Howie still has holes to fill I assume with lesser value players and the draft. 

I'm not sure this team will be as strong as last season. With the stronger schedule and the loss of key players it will very difficult to repeat. Hell no team has won the East back to back in decades.

Fangio has likely already identified a few unknowns who he is targeting.  Brilliant strategy the Eagles employ - focus on hungry players - draft picks and low priced veteran pickups on short term deals with something to prove.

Williams is the 3rd..Sweat the 4th plus we get Reddicks pick somewhere next year don't we?

Correct but minor correction Williams should net us a 3rd and Sweat a 4th (you had them reversed).  Also note those comp picks would be received in 2026 (not this upcoming draft next month).
