Wow, Didn't see the CGJ trade. I loved how he played and brought the edge. Really confused on this decision.

so we’re just gonna blow up the entire defense?

Assuming this move officially shuts the door on re-signing Becton as well.

I guess the player we traded for will be our New Guard. Bechton is gone. Sydney Jones Brown is the new starter at Safety?

You mean Brown?

Only problem with this is it’s

Slay -> Rodgers -> Ringo

I get that, but we also knew Slay would be gone. They had Slay and Bradberry and brought in Ringo and Rodgers, plus Eli Ricks, then drafted Q and DeJean. They've been on a youth movement for several years and knew these veterans would be gone.

A big part of this trade is giving former third-round pick Sydney Brown a chance to compete for a starting spot next to Reed Blankenship in the Eagles’ defense. Brown was a third-round pick out of Illinois in 2023 but hasn’t yet carved out a significant role on defense. He showed some promise as a rookie but tore his ACL in the regular season finale and missed the start of 2024 before bing buried on the depth chart.

In addition to Brown, the Eagles also still have Tristin McCollum and Lewis Cine on the roster. There are also several months before the opener, so it’s possible the Eagles could add another safety.

And Blankenship, 26, is entering the final year of his contract. So an extension could be coming for the now-veteran starter.

Green, 23, was the No. 15 overall pick out of Texas A&M back in the 2022 draft but his NFL career hasn’t gone to plan. After starting 14 games as a rookie, with plenty of struggles, Green missed the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury.

In 2024, Green was benched in October. He ended up playing in 12 games with 9 starts. Last season, ProFootballFocus ranked him as the No. 76 best guard in the NFL out of 77 qualified players. Green gave up 47 pressures and 4 sacks last season. He appears to be another reclamation for highly regarded offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.

Green has played only left guard in the NFL and the Eagles have Pro Bowler Landon Dickerson at that spot. So perhaps we see him get some time at right guard, where there’s an opening. The Eagles’ 2024 starter, Mekhi Becton, is a free agent. The Eagles also have 2023 third-round pick Tyler Steen on the roster.

Rumor has it they are going to continue to look to add another veteran QB.  Their overall plan doesn't seem to make much sense but then again, it is the Browns so ...

I wouldn’t be surprised if he go a chance to compete. He is a first and he hasn’t been terrible when he’s played. Regardless it is the Browns like you mentioned so. 😂

What a terrible trade on paper.

I wouldn’t be all for Brown getting a chance, but it seemed like they were the ones who put him behind McCullum. He seemed like he had potential until he got hurt. I just hope they’re right about this one.

Great news about the Guard we traded for.

My guess is that CJ wore thin on the organization.  We saw his feud with Slay spill out into media reports.  And he hasn't been able to stick with the same team two years in a row.  He probably was impossible inside the locker room.  Otherwise, I doubt the team makes this trade without Fangio signing off.

We do not know if Green is meant to be a starter, I don't see how he could given the bolded. He may just be depth and another reclamation project. He might have been an add-in since the CJGJ move is apparently mostly financial.

Green missed all of 2023 with a shoulder injury, was benched last year in October, and has only ever played Left Guard.

I can't see that as an instant RG starter, that has to be a depth/project add-in to the trade.

It's also just an article from CSN and isn't necessarily an accurate reading of everything that went into this decision.

Kinda of a weird response. Instead of a "oh no (enter name) will be missed", we got that lol. Maybe Lane knows something.

Howie did say that the roster will not be set at the start of training camp.  We're going to have to wait and see on this one.

Could be a generic thing like Howie's got a plan or something. Some think he didn't like CJGJ though.

I think Howie's plan is for 2026 compensatory picks.
