Posted March 14Mar 14 Since last look Becton is still available. Any chance Eagles re sign him, re structure or whatever. Or is he not worth it? would be nice to keep the offensive line intact

March 14Mar 14 I hope becton nets us a big fat comp pick!! Great story loved the emotion he displayed, but it’s either time to let steen play or find other options.

Pretty sure we are already maxed out on comp picks. That being said OP is a moron and this thread will be moved shortly

Hopefully it is for big $ (to give us as high a comp pick possible) but something tells me when they are reported many are going to say, "WTF we could have matched that rabble rabble rabble!!" Which would mean we likely either didn't offer much or didn't make an offer at all.

March 15Mar 15 First, he was a wonderful Eagle. Lane wanted a mountain next to him and Becton delivered. He helped take that run game to a 2k rusher and set records. The images of him and him with his son during the on the field celebration will be part of Eagles history forever. I genuinely wish him well. Second, don't hold your breath on the 10m actually being 10m as far as the comp pick goes. Wait until the journalists / websites see the contract. Third, I read a blurb on just how awful that Chargers interior run blocking was. Based on metrics including centers (so 96 league starters) all 3 Chargers were in the hundreds like 108 to 120. Becton is going to change that. How he develops as a pass blocker is something to watch. (They did not say where those metrics came from)
March 15Mar 15 There will be no middle class salaries on the Birds. Long term big money deals with core players, those on cheap rookie deals and select 1 year 1-2 mil vets.
March 15Mar 15 Steen isn't much of a guard. We need every position on D in the draft but we also need a starting RG in the 3rd round, either with our late 3 or with an early 3 from a trade down out of the 1st

Sink or swim time.. but they also traded for a former first rounder (potentially) have another draft pick in house and will likely draft someone else it isn’t like we have no options.

Yep, they don't need a RG. They have their guy in either Steen or Green. Letting Becton walk at a 10 million cap hit was the right move. I will take the potential slight downgrade, plus 8 million in cap space, plus the 5th round compensatory pick all day.

And those comp picks hold a lot more value the last several years now that they can be traded.

At the end of the day you can’t be paying all 5 of your o-line big salaries and they will want to extend Jurgens soon. Let Steen, Green and hopefully a draft pick battle it out.

I never said we didn't have options. Kinnard is big and moves well and may be the best RG on the roster. I'm interested in seeing how Keegan does after a year of seasoning. He has the pedigree but is a bit smaller. I wonder if he could play center. I think Steen is a good OT. Howie always wants high draft picks to play and he'll be given every opportunity to win the position. I just don't see him as a good to very good OG. Maybe he'll surprise me. I would expect an addition via the draft to play RG and hopefully also C because we don't have a via option at back up C on the roster. And Stouts will want a developmental OT. Wouldn't be surprised to see two OL picks
March 16Mar 16 Becton was 21st out of 135 guards last season. Think it was his first time playing the position. Not too shabby. Landon was 13th. Jordan and Lane were 1st and 7th out of 141 tackles and Cam was 16th out of 64 centers. Pretty cool.
March 16Mar 16 He probably priced himself out of being brought back. I think that is partially what drove the CJGJ trade for a former 1st round pick bust OL. Another guy they can plug in with talent that they hope to develop. I doubt Becton had a huge market. He still has to prove it beyond 1 year to net the big money. If he does well with the chargers he will set himself up for a huge contract. If not, he will be back on the market after 1 year with the chargers probably.
