Posted March 19Mar 19 I’m kind of surprised it hasn’t been done yet. I’m sure it’s coming, but would like to see it before the draft so there are no distractions. He has earned a big extension. Whether it’s an additional 3 or 4 years, he shouldn’t be going anywhere for the next 3 years. He has earned that. They’ve rewarded Saquon and Johnson. Time to reward Siri.
March 20Mar 20 Siri had the good fortune of being a head coach of one of the best rosters in the SB era. The team will likely treat him well, but management has more leverage than you realize here.
March 20Mar 20 I also don't see any hurry to extend a HC. There's no salary cap to consider and very few successful coaches would prefer a fresh start on a new team over staying with the one they've built a culture on. Just wait until it's time to get it done.

I don’t think we should get to week one with our HC in the last few months of his deal?

March 20Mar 20 All the fans will want him fired after the first loss or failed 4th down anyway doesn’t matter if they sign him for 10 years
March 20Mar 20 Siri has certainly earned an extension. I am somewhat surprised it hasn't been done yet. You know what else hasn't been done yet? A contract extension for Howie Roseman...he's due too. #ExtendBoth
March 20Mar 20 There are no regulations on how coaches are paid. That means if Sirianni made $7M last season in contractual salary, Lurie could have decided at any time to give him a $5M bonus for leading the team to a SB victory. There's just not the same urgency with a coach as you have with players under salary cap restraints and CBA regulations. As a team, with players near the top of their peers positionally, it makes sense to get a deal done earlier because the bar is always getting raised and you are constrained by a cap to keep all your good players together. What seems like a high contract in it's current setting, likely will seem more of a bargain (as a whole) in just a couple of years. That's the dynamic you deal with within the confines of the salary cap. That dynamic simply does not exist with coaches. But the bar will still go up, so it's actually beneficial for the coaching candidate to wait until his current contract is up and it's beneficial to the organization to wait to make sure the direction of the team is where it should be when that time comes.
March 20Mar 20 No rush to do it now. Let’s wait and see what the results of his first 4th down call of the season are. Then we can decide to extend him for a lifetime, or fire him with extreme prejudice.

I really don’t think it’s in Siriani’s interest at all to wait until his contract is up. Unless he wins another Super Bowl next year his value won’t be higher. It’s absolutely in his interest to get paid now and have that financial security. For the Eagles it doesn’t make sense either. It would in effect be letting Siriani enter the season as a vulnerable lame duck. Silly really when he has just won a Super Bowl and been to 2 in the past 3 years. i suspect what may be holding it up is that he doesn’t call plays, so they may not want to pay him in the Andy Reid range. Hopefully something gets done soon though.
March 21Mar 21 Just like with players, every year the bar gets raised and new contracts / extensions are higher than the year before. Here are the top 20 contracts (annual average) we know and this doesn't include most of the new HC moves: Rank Coach Team Total Compensation 1 Andy Reid Kansas City Chiefs $20 million 2 Sean Payton Denver Broncos $18 million T-3 Mike Tomlin Pittsburgh Steelers $16 million T-3 Jim Harbaugh Los Angeles Chargers $16 million 5 Sean McVay Los Angeles Rams $15 million 6 Kyle Shanahan San Francisco 49ers $14 million T-7 Ben Johnson Chicago Bears $13 million T-7 Kevin O’Connell Minnesota Vikings $13 million 9 John Harbaugh Baltimore Ravens $12 million 10 Liam Cohen Jacksonville Jaguars $12 million T-11 Dan Campbell Detroit Lions $11 million T-11 Sean McDermott Buffalo Bills $11 million 13 Mike Macdonald Seattle Seahawks $9 million 14 Dan Quinn Washington Commanders $8.5 million 15 Demeco Ryans Houston Texans $8 million 16 Nick Sirianni Philadelphia Eagles $7 million 17 Matt LaFleur Green Bay Packers $5 million 18 Zac Taylor Cincinnati Bengals $4.5 million 19 Raheem Morris Atlanta Falcons $4 million T-20 Kevin Stefanski Cleveland Browns $3.5 million T-20 Mike McDaniel Miami Dolphins $3.5 million --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Compare that to 2021 when Sirianni was hired: List of all NFL Head Coach Salaries 2021 Bill Belichick – $12 Million Urban Meyer – $12 Million (reportedly) Pete Carroll – $11 Million Jon Gruden – $10 Million Sean Payton – $9.8 Million John Harbaugh – $9 Million Matt Rhule – $8.5 Million Sean McVay – $8.5 Million Mike Tomlin – $8 Million Andy Reid – $8 Million Bruce Arians – $8 Million Ron Rivera – $7 Million Kliff Kingsbury – $5.5 Million Robert Saleh – $5 Million Joe Judge – $5 Million Matt LaFleur – $5 Million Vic Fangio – $5 Million Frank Reich – $4.5 Million Zac Taylor – $4.5 Million Mike McCarthy – $4 Million Mike Zimmer – $4 Million Kevin Stefanski – $3.5 Million Kyle Shanahan – $3.5 Million Mike Vrabel – $3 Million Brian Flores – $3 Million Note: The salaries of David Culley, Matt Nagy, Sean McDermott, Brandon Staley, Dan Campbell, Nick Sirianni, and Arthur Smith are unknown. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are a lot of guys on that list that had sizable pay raises without going to another Super Bowl. In 4 years, Sirianni has reached the postseason 4 times with 3 different OCs and DCs. If Sirianni waits another year, the average amount will be higher than if he signs an extension right now. There is an unknown regarding how the team will fare in 2025. History suggests postseason at worst. Probability suggests postseason at worst. Vegas suggests Eagles are the current SB favorite. I have no way of knowing what injuries may effect the team in 2025 and we have a lot of depth to replace as well heading into the season. However, I do know that the Eagles under Sirianni have always been resilient and there is a great culture established here that welcomes and embraces new faces from day 1. So if Sirianni bets on himself, I believe it's a safe bet.
March 21Mar 21 ^^^ guessing Sirianni will likely end up in the $15-16M range when all is said and done.
