Posted April 28Apr 28 As Howie always says, he is always building the roster. It doesn't end after the initial FA period and the draft. Who could be the next Eagles via remaining FA or trade target? After seeing Atlanta draft Walker and Pearce in Round 1, I went to look at their roster. They seem to have a surplus of Edge/OLB types. I correlated that with past top-30 visits with the Eagles and came up with 2 possible targets from Atlanta that would make sense:Arnold Ebiketie - 6' 2", 250 lbs OLB from Penn State - 6 sacks in each of last 2 years and tested well during the pre-draft process in 2022 (~9 RAS score). DeAngelo Malone - 6' 3" 235 lbs OLB from Western Kentucky - Special teams ace but hasn't been part of the regular defense. That could be concerning given Atlanta's crappy D, but as we know, teams sometimes don't use their players properly. Malone tested well, also during the 2022 pre-draft process (9.08 RAS score).Malone could probably be had for a 7th rounder while Ebiketie would probably cost at least a 5th, maybe a 4th.What say you? Any predictions? Trade target prediction?
April 29Apr 29 Seeing as the Birds currently have about eleventy million smallish edges.Maybe look at DT TE and Outside corner targets
April 29Apr 29 CB is a definite need. Someone who can play outside. You have Q, Ringo, Jackson and Ricks and I am not much on Ricks. This is a very thin group. Injuries happen.

Injuries happen.I may be in the minority, but I'm more optimistic than pessimistic about Ringo. I want to see what he can do when given the chance.I also wonder if Asante Samuel Jr is on their radar. He's smaller, but has primarily played outside CB thus far...though he does have slot potential. As far as a trade candidate for CB....I'd check in about Julius Brents. He's coming off an injury, but seems he hasn't gotten his footing yet in Indy. Indy probably wouldn't deal him, but he'd be someone I imagine the Eagles having interest in. They did have him in for a 30-visit during the 2023 pre-draft process.
April 29Apr 29 Some veteran FA I’d be interested in:CBAsante Samuel Jr - good zone corner, struggles in press-man coverage and his reputation for not being a good tackler may keep him off of Fangios list.Stephon Gilmore - if we’re not sure Ringo is ready to be the full time starter.Rasul Douglas - if we DO think Ringo can lock down the CB spot opposite Q, but want another vet to compete with Adoree Jackson.DTRaekwon Davis - former 2nd rounder from Alabama. Put him in the rotation, still only 27, see if he can develop some more.DEZa’Darius Smith - bigger, rotational DE towards the end of his career, come win a chip for a little discount deal.LBKyzir White - another starting caliber LB until Dean is healthy (maybe the full season) and to give Campbell some reps on the edge.Outside the box…RBNick Chubb - we don’t need him and his tank may be empty. Good people who love the game make the team better without changing the stat sheet. I just like him… and trust he could get the job done in this offense in a spot start or in a pinch if Barkley needed a breather.
April 30Apr 30 I don't see any needs that are so massive/any players who are so good that we should be offering more than a 1 year deal around the league minimum. I think TE is far and away the biggest need (assuming Goedert is gone) but Gerald Everett is the best TE available and I"m not sure he's an upgrade over GC/Bryant/Granson.I have no interest in Smith. I am super excited about a young crop of edge rushers with Smith, Ojulari, Hunt, and Campbell either sprinkled in or for all we know just a full time edge rusher. Uche and Huff can be veteran fall back options/depth. Smith is 33 and could be Robert Quinn this coming season for all we know. I don't get the clamoring for him at all.I wouldn't mind adding another corner but I don't think it's a massive need.

However to say that we have no needs, with so many proven vets leaving the organization...is being too optimistic about development time. Looking forward to summer camp.

TE is a major need and I think they could use another Corner. IF they plan to use Campbell as a full time edge than they will also need a depth LB to compete with Trot Jr. and Mondon Jr. while Nakobe is out.

Let Vic have options in camp just in case. It's a shame they couldn't have kept CJ for one more year or one of Rodgers or Slay.I'm expecting some growing pains the first few weeks, but for Vic to figure it out like last year.Fingers crossed they keep DG for one more as well.

If Goddard leaves, then we are thin at TE. Definitely a veteran CB would be welcomed.

But the succession after is unclear. It seems the FO counts on Calcaterra to step up and take over, which is not yet sure. Teo vets were signed as competition and backup. They had good seasons before and could be valuable. But would be only for short term. The draft just concluded has good TE prospects but the FO did nothing, which is oversight IMHO.
