Adoree Jackson is simply serviceable. He wasn't great at USC. I've never liked his game.

Does Gilmore have anything left in the tank. It was obviously a mistake to let both Slay and Rodgers go.

I'm glad Ringo got a chance to learn some lessons going up against one of the top WRs in the NFL ... in a game that didn't count. It wasn't the performance I'd like to see, but he's a young player with a lot to learn still. I'm still not so sure the Eagles will try Bennett outside in our defense. He may have been added to compete at nickel so DeJean can move around. We are only a few seasons removed from a game where a very experienced Slay was dominated by Metcalf who isn't even half the route runner Chase is. CBs will have bad games from time to time. Hopefully Ringo will bounce back with a stronger showing next week.

Sorry to rain on our parade, but Ringo is not CB2. Chase or not, his PS1 game looked as lousy as his OTAs.

#Better be Bennett

None of the corners did anything impressive out there and the fact the Eagles made. Move for a corner prior to this game shows that they have had concerns for this position for a while now. Ringo getting turned into a turnstile in a preseason game is a problem. Jackson and Ringo were consistently getting beat by ones and twos. Not the kind of stuff we need to see from a number one defense. Perhaps it’s time to solidify the safety position and move DeJean outside as well, because the safeties didn’t attribute themselves well either. Now maybe we can cut them some slack because they didn’t have the Eagles defense out there, but for Ringo to miss that tackle that badly had to have been troubling to see.

With Sydney shoulder and Makuba injuries...our safety position..is a question mark. Second CB is a big question mark. I think it is time for Howie to bring in more help, whether it is Simmons at safety on one year deal, or another CB.

It's the first preseason game. Everybody needs to take a breath.

Ringo got TOASTED in the 1st game, contrary to what his supporters are trying to twist it. Jackson is a scrub. Bennett better be able to play. If he can play outside and hold his own- fine. If not, you can try Bennett inside and move Coop outside and experiment with that. But time is short and decisions must be made. Not sure who is out there that Howie could call for a trade or whatever. C'mon, Howie and Fangio- plug the leak... because there IS a leak.

I am sure that Vic would adjust coverages during the game, so things are not completely hopeless....But... the way Ringo was getting toasted by #2s..is concerning to say the least, especially after all the hype of him going against AJ. Urgently looking for someone to step up.

I am looking forward to seeing what Bennett can do. Hopefully he shows better than Ringo and Jackson who definitely looks like he has lost a step. If no one steps up I do think we'll see Howie pull the trigger on trading for someone ... we do have 13 projected picks next year after all. Can't see him being OK with going into the season with a glaring weakness for a team that just won a championship and is in prime position to win another.

CB is definitely the biggest worry at this point in the preseason. Ringo got cooked bad on the long TD, but Jackson was consistently bad throughout the game, and reports from TC make it sound like that's more of the same from what those guys have been doing. Definitely hoping Bennett can take the job at this point.

With Mac McWilliams getting some praise for his TC, I kinda thought we'd see him get a shot at nickel with Dejean sliding outside on those downs, but it sounds like Dejean has only been moving from nickel to safety. Interesting that Mac is getting a look on the outside.

In some of the earlier offseason activities it was reported DeJean was taking some reps outside. Perhaps they already feel comfortable with what he could do there and just want to focus on the other options.

I expect them to rely on coaching/scheme, and Q, DeJean and Blankenship to make up for the weakness at other S and CB2. Plus the strong front 7. We'd all like more stability, but I think we might be complaining all season about it unless someone really steps up and/or the defense as a whole compensates for it.

Would it be an Eagles message board otherwise? ;)

It is very difficult to hide a bad starting corner. OC's make their living exploiting guys like that. I expect the Cowboys to immdediately come out throwing against the Eagles #2 corner.

TBD determine how strong the front 7 still is after the departures of Williams and Sweat. I do like Ojomo, Hunt, and Smith but depth at the edge could be an issue.

The defense started a bit up and down last year but was a beast by the end of the season, Fangio's scheme often needs time to click for guys that are new into it, while it's a worry at the moment that Ringo isn't doing a little better (though it should be said Cincinnati's WR Corps will expose a lot better than Ringo) I expect the new arrivals on the back end to improve as they bed in with more reps

They've got to be thinking some quality one year depth rentals will fall out in final roster cuts because the D Line depth looks thin as it stands, by my count we have 7 edge rushers tops in the 90 and that's including guys like Johnson and Mathis who are ST level.

Yeah Howie does seem to make quite a few moves at the end of the summer, whether picking up players freed up during roster cutdowns or swinging deals to trade for someone. Thinking we may see the latter for a CB.

I'm also reading that if all else fails, DeJean may see extended playing time outside at CB

DeJean is dominant at inside CB or possibly safety. It would be foolish to move him outside and weaken his current position.

I expect EVERYONE to immediately come out throwing against the Eagles #2 corner. Unless all the other corners are so pathetic that Eagles move DeJean to CB2.

But then we need Simmons or more candidates to compete at safety2.

I mentioned something about that yesterday. Not sure how I feel about that TBH. On one hand he is likely the best option at outside CB of the options currently on the roster. But if they plan to move him outside when in base defense and then back inside when in nickel (as was "reported" ... probably more like speculated ... earlier), then that is really only about 15% of the snaps, so would still need an option at outside CB. My concern is if they may have shifted plans and intend to move him permanently outside ... he is such a force inside.

I think DB as a whole. Outside of 27, 32, and 33 everyone else is a question mark. CJGJ, Slay, and letting Rodgers walk was a weird choice. I thought for sure we’d keep Rodgers as he played well when he was in. Ringo, Jackson, and Ricks are all wildcards with Ricks being the only one who I’m not terrified to line up as a starter.

Ringo is stiff, good athlete but bad instincts.

Jackson is just meh.

Then one injury away at safety or CB to really be in the dirt at the position.

I'm just glad everybody still has something to worry about and stress over. That's the worst thing about winning Super Bowls --- fans might head into the next season feeling good and enjoy just rooting for the players ... or something even worse like being optimistic.

p.s.

we are always just 1 injury away from playing the next man up.
