Wow, even with the recent departure of 3 key scouting department members, I didn't see this coming. It's not like our drafts were remarkable during his first stint here ('16-'19). Those were the drafts that brought us Dillard, Sidney Jones, JJAW, Pumphrey, Matt Collins, etc. Wonder what his role/title will be?

I read it’s a senior scouting something or other

He drafted some really nice talent in NYJ; Breece, Garrett, Jermaine, Fashanu, Sauce, McDonald IV, Quinnen. They had serious defenses in his tenure. What doomed him was having a high draft pick in the black hole of the 2021 QB draft: Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Jones, Fields, Trask… It doesn’t really matter which one he was going to draft, he’d still lose his job.

As long as Howie is still making all the decisions, this is a good addition to the think tank

Maybe we can bring back Patricia, also.

Yep. And I still believe the actual reason Howie drafted Hurts in 2020 was at the time, there was a distinct possibility the college football 2020-'21 season was either going to be canceled or postponed to the spring (as FCS actually was). Nobody realistically expected Carson Wentz to implode like he did and I suspect the original plan was to convert this second round pick to a first from a team desperate for a QB (maybe even the Jets) who would already have a year of NFL experience under his belt while those in college didn't get to play in 2020 because of COVID (of course, we all know what subsequently happened).

Wentz had already fractured the locker room and missed significant time when Hurts was drafted

Obviously we didn't know how bad it was but in hindsight it was a precursor to what we saw later in Indy.

I thought he did pretty well in NY. We seemed to take a step forward when he was here. I think we've progressed further since he left but he's not a bad talent guy.

I like this move, particularly with all the recent scouting departures.

I remember when he left everyone lined up to jump off the Ben Franklin because supposedly he had been the one responsible for everything good that happened and Howie had been responsible for everything bad.

Yup, same as Sirianni and Steichen, who might very well be back next year once Richardson and Ballard get him fired.

Yayyyyy lets draft the next Derrick Barnetts and Andre Dillards

More importantly, go back and consider all the personnel moves made prior to the 2017 season.

He’s back because he and Howie have a good relationship. The Eagles have lost a lot of FO people as well so brining someone back into the fold they are familiar with is a safe option. At this point I trust Howie with this stuff.

I'm cool with this move. He knows some Football stuff. No one really succeeds with the Jets Organization. 🤓

He is still trying to get that Jets STANK out of his nostrils. Welcome back, JD.

The scapegoat is back for any and all questionable draft picks so Howie doesn't get blame lol
