Here is a prop question for everyone just for grins.

How many of Alexander and Simmons do the Eagles end up signing zero? One? Or two?

Neither

Perhaps a poll would be more efficient than a thread?

Don’t know how to make it a poll. If I get instructions I’ll be glad to convert it.

zero

Alexander who and Simmons who?

Alexander 0%

Simmons 20%

Have to assume he is referring to Jaire Alexander and Justin Simmons.

I can't see them signing Alexander mainly because he'll have a lot of interest and will likely sign somewhere relatively fast. His market will probably be better than it should be, given his injury concerns.

I still think there's a chance we sign Simmons later this summer. Much will depend on how Vic sees Mukuba and if he thinks he's ready in year 1. Simmons probably won't sign anywhere until after training camps start around the league whereas Alexander will probably sign somewhere by the end of this week.

Just FYI for when you go to make a new thread...

Thanks

My official guess would be zero. I don't think there's any shot we'll pick up Jaire. He'll draw interest from around the league and get a decent contract somewhere.

Simmons I actually think wouldn't be surprising at all if we picked him up after a few weeks of training camp. IIRC, he's already expressed interest in playing here under Fangio again. I could see them wanting a veteran presence if Mukuba and Brown don't look ready early in training camp, and Simmons would probably be willing to do a one year deal at this point.

So official guess 0.

Odds of signing:

Alexander - 0%

Simmons - 25%

I think both are needed given our current roster and where the "gaps” are. I also don’t think we will get either though. That said we do have cap space so we really should be interested.

Neither. If they sign anyone it should be an edge rusher.

Neither. At some point you have to let the young guys play. If you're not going to let them play, what's the point in spending draft picks on them?

If we were to add another starting-caliber player this year (between now and trade deadline), I'd imagine Edge Rusher would be at the top of the list.

That said, maybe we'll get lucky and both Ojulari and Uche will look good and have an impact. My main concern is the size factor of our Edges...Hunt being the biggest. The rest are on the lighter side and will probably get bullied in the run game. Vic is gonna have to scheme to counteract that.

I don't see either of them signing unless someone who's already here goes down injured in Training Camp, I think Alexander will find a prove it deal somewhere else pretty quickly in any event. On the other hand I wonder how much Simmons has got left that would elevate him over anyone already on the roster, he only caught on in Atlanta at the last minute last year and wasn't exactly stellar, maybe Vic gets a tune out of him that no-one else can, or maybe we'd be signing the Safety version of 2022 Robert Quinn and he's just done.

I don’t see the Eagles making any big moves until somewhere around the trading deadline.

Alexander off the market.

1 year worth $6M? I mean Howie better have a big move in mind! That’s not a lot of money for a legit starter at a position where we have real uncertainty opposite Q.

Some fans may have been hopeful to sign him and it would have made some sense (especially at only $6M), but Howie has repeatedly said this offseason that they want to give the young players we’ve drafted (or acquired via other means) the opportunity to play. So kinda makes sense that we wait to sign anyone (Simmons included) until we see how Ringo, Ricks, Mukuba, Brown, and others look this summer and possibly preseason games before making any further moves.

And I get that to a point… but Alexander at $6M? To me that’s a no brainer. Ringo is still a massive unknown and the likelihood is he’s not going to be as good as Alexander. To be fair if he’s half the player that Alexander has been I’d say that’s a win for a mid round pick. I get the want to give young players a chance but when a player like Alexander becomes available I think you have to change that slightly. This team is ready to win now (as it did last year) and I think not taking that chance is a little bit silly.

Maybe Howie wanted to go with the young corners, maybe Howie reached out to Fangio about Alexander and he shot it down, none of us will ever know and we just have to move on.

I agree with Alexander and stated as much. I’m just saying that we fans should not have expected different because of Howie’s comments and the approach he is taking this season. Time will tell if that is the right approach.

And I guess Howie and this organisation have definitely earned the right to our trust right? That said I still don’t love our offseason and still feel we have taken a step back. Still one of the best teams in the NFL of course but I’m not sure we are truly maximising our window.
