Trumpers love to talk about how popular republicans are, and that the democratic party is "dead", yet everything they do is a desperate hail mary to try to be competitive in 2026.

It begins...

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) popularity has grown among Democratic voters in recent months as he has emerged as a possible top contender for the party’s 2028 presidential nominee, according to a new poll that was released on Tuesday.

The new Morning Consult survey found that Newsom’s support among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents has increased by 8 points, going from 11 percent in June to 19 percent in late August. In March, 5 percent of respondents backed Newsom, who has clashed with President Trump and Republicans over efforts to redraw congressional lines in Texas and tussled with the administration over his push to redraw California’s lines ahead of the 2026 midterms.

2026 should be a layup for dems

They have a crazy amount of ammo to take over if they don't trip over themselves

I think that'd be a bad decision but he is popular because he's been outspoken against trump

Newsome is the only one standing up to Trump. He has to be the front runner now.

Shapiro is my guy but he doesn't seem to be interested.

He's the only democrat I see showing any kind of leadership.

Ah, I see you're new to politics.

The biggest issue with Democrats is they all act like they're politicians in an Aaron Sorkin movie/show. As it turns out a President Barlett is only good for television. If you want to be successful, you have to frame.

Obama absolutely did no framing at all, but the only reason he won is because a: people really hate Hillary, and b: people were really unhappy with R's vis a vis the wars and the crap economy. Change those variables and Obama wouldn't have made it out of the primary.

You need two things: a likable, charismatic candidate and framing. Framing is simple and stupid, but it works. (For example: boxing in Kerry as a flip-flopper, there you go again, where's the beef, etc.) If Harris would have just called Trump "Dumba** Donnie" over and over, it would have been a different story.

Unfortunately dems in Federal offices still think they're in a Sorkin show, and you have meetings being opened with "land-acknowledgments", so I'm pretty sure the Dems at large learned no lessons and will not cover the spread.

Like, just imagine how much power a re-incarnated LBJ would wield right now. Instead, the dems are being a bunch of ussies about it.

Sorry to say, Newsome would not have a chance. Are Dems still going to be in the same bad spot theyve been in for years with no legitimate contenders?

Framing works for right wing candidates.

What works to get right of center voters to the polls isn't the same as what works for left of center voters.

Obama won because he was an incredible politician and speaker who made the left feel good about being liberals. That alone was the biggest reason the right hated him.

I think the amount of registered independents changed the game. I think the middle got too big to be able to win by motivating your base, and the middle likes simple messaging.

Plus I mean right now Gavin with his messaging is the only Dem actually placating the base. The traditional Dem messaging ain’t doing it.

Schumer is good for a harshly worded letter.

Honestly the Dem opposition is gonna need to come from the states because congressional Dems couldn’t message their way out of a wet paper bag.

It's a mirage. There is no way she could carry a primary election. Too bad for the Dems that there really aren't any centrists left in the party like there were in the '90's and earlier. Newsome, Buttplug and Harris are all extremists, and incompetent ones at that.
