I think it's somewhat odd how so many would jump to trade a valuable piece to a championship-contending team for a draft pick. It was Buddy Ryan I believe that, when asked who the most important player on the team was said the QB ... and then when asked about the 2nd most important he answered the backup QB. We all saw the importance of having a very good option at QB2 in Super Bowl LII. Had we dealt Foles that season and were forced to play Sudfeld when Wentz went down it is highly unlikely we end up with the trophy in our case to end the year. Add in the fact that we already have THIRTEEN projected draft picks in 2026 (10 picks of our own plus from trades plus 3 projected comp picks) ... 5 picks on days 1+2 alone. We're already loaded with picks.

And sure an extra 2nd could net us another Hurts, DeJean, or Dickerson (which no doubt would be awesome), but it could also lead to another Sidney Jones or Eric Rowe (point is, there is no guarantee the pick turns out to be a great one). I think having the player that has demonstrated to be a more than capable QB at this level (albeit in limited experience) is much more valuable to a team with a strong chance to win it all again this season (and with a QB who employs a play style that may force QB2 into action at some point ... knock on wood).

The way he's playing tonight I want 2 firsts now lol

If Hurts gets hurt, we can still win with TM. And if TM plays with the ones, this could be fun.

You don’t trade a backup that could win a super bowl

Lol preseason is officially here

We can't fault McKee for continuing to play well in every opportunity, though --- and the other 2 guys kind of stunk today. I think the next 2 preseason games should be a battle between DTR and McCord. There's no need to play McKee many more snaps. Maybe a series in each game at most. I'd like to see both of the other guys get some work behind the second string O-line because after them, the blocking is complete garbage and it's just too hard to evaluate anything offensively.

McKee made watching a preseason game bearable for a change.

I would like to take a second for McKee...to think about him adding another ring as the backup because you don't trade a valuable backup as a Super Bowl contender.

Oh i know and he does play well every time he does get to play but, holy hell to claim he can win a super bowl based off of preseason is ridiculous. I have zero problems eating crow if it does happen but, im not making claims either way. Thats how you end up on the boards archives looking like a dumb ass lol.

I was one of the guys saying Foles could possibly win us some playoff games if things go right and he plays the way he has shown before that he could play at a high level in big games. McKee had not had that opportunity yet. All im saying is until i see Mckee in a meaningful game when the competition is at its highest and see how he performs then ill believe it.

We have seen this movie many times where the qb played lights out in the preseason. Hell foles didnt even play preseason or barely because he had elbow issues the year we won the sb with him but now people know what a super bowl qb looks like right now? Nah.

At the very least he boosted his value both with the team and in any potential trade right? What a competent and assured performance to back up what we saw in limited action last year.

Keep him. Hurts misses games every season. How many years left on his deal?

Hurts is a big reason we are a Super Bowl contender. It's important to keep that in mind. McKee has played extremely well to date, but he doesn't have a single snap of experience in a must win game at the NFL level. Foles was a great story --- mainly because it's very unlikely we'll see something like that happen again for a very long time. Fans are acting like we should expect it.

I can actually see a situation where we have a proven starter in Hurts and a fan generated mythological super-stud in McKee and there will be talk by fans and media after any ho-hum performance about the good ol' QB switcheroo.

Seriously, how long do you think it will be before we see, "Why trade McKee when we can get more from a Hurts trade?" You know it's coming.

My post wasn't diminishing Hurts, just saying it's important to have a good backup. That's true for any team, but this team is primed for a SB repeat, McKee has been in the system. I wouldn’t trade him.

I know what you were saying. I was just adding what I wanted to say to readers.

My position is that McKee has the talent and poise to be a starter in the NFL. That means the Eagles can't keep him long term because replacing Hurts is a ridiculous proposition. It also means that in the short term, they have a top tier backup QB and we know how important that can be if the team has to call upon him. I'll enjoy the confidence having him on the roster affords me as a fan, and look forward to facing him as the opposing starter at some point in the future. I'm thrilled he is here and I wish they could extend him for 6-8 years but I know he'll be moving on at some point, so for now, I take solace in the fact that the team is in very good shape at the QB position.

Get someone who looks at you the way Hurts looks at McKee.

I retract my statement of getting a 2nd for Tanner.

McKee is probably the best 2nd string guy the Eagles have had under Hurts.

I wouldn’t trade him if last night is anything to go by. And if last night is a good measuring stick to go by we might not have him very long anyway.

I probably wouldn’t take a second now. But would take a first. Particularly if it’s from a team who might stink.

I think the plan should be trade him next offseason. It’s clear he’s going to want an opportunity to start so that would be the time to get value.

1st rd picks only.

Your need? My terms, F.U. Pay Me!

I would do it for a first if a team desperately comes knocking.

I’d take a 2027 first or a second from a weak team plus a conditional pick that could be another second or third if he becomes a solid starter. It’s great to have a back-up that could be Foles 2.0, but if someone gives us two picks that can give us starters or the ability to trade up in the first to get Lane Johnson’s successor.

The most value he has is right here as a back up. He will play this year. Next off season is when you cash in. If he plays well, nothing lower the a 1st rounder. Unless he doesn't play well.

No
