They flip those guys for picks. You could try and hold onto him, but what if he chooses not to resign because he feels as if he can get a starting gig elsewhere? Then you get nothing for him.I don't want to "hold on to him" ... you flip him next offseason for a pick. If Hurts goes down this year, you want McCord in there??

The best case scenario would be for McKee to ball out in the preseason and in spot duty in the regular season and for a desperate team to pony up a first if we throw in a mid round pick or two.Agreed. The Eagles almost have too many picks right now. They’re not going to be able to find spots for these guys to play. My guess is Howie is gearing up to make a big move for some kind of pass rush help or he will keep making moves to stockpile picks. And stretch them out over the next several seasons. Either way McKey is more valuable to this team right now as a backup than just another high pick.
September 15, 2025Sep 15 Come on Bengals. Trey Hendrickson and a first rounder for Tanner McKee. Call Howie before it's too late. 😃

Either way McKey is more valuable to this team right now as a backup than just another high pick.We went from having 13 picks next year to now 9 (a 5th to Minny for Howell, a 7th to Jax for Johnson, a 5th + a 6th to Jax for Bigsby). Still a decent amount and great to have 4 day 2 picks. Seems we go through this just about every year. Howie stockpiles picks and then as the season progresses he unloads a few here and there and we end up entering the draft with like 6-7 (which he then uses some to stockpile more with his wheeling and dealing).
September 19, 2025Sep 19 Now that we have Howell the answer is "yes IF". The if is getting howell signed for another year.
September 21, 2025Sep 21 I’d rather keep him but it would be tough if a team offered a first for him.
September 26, 2025Sep 26 It would be nice to see him play in the regular season when games are meaningful. 🙄
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Author Just as a thought to get away from the current angst. To me the Browns seem like an ideal trade partner for McKee.They aren’t high enough to get one of the top 2 QBs. They may want a longer look at Sanders, but will need competition. They have 2 firsts and a high second. Their second (or even the Jags first if Howie can work his magic) makes all the sense. We won’t be able to keep him after next year so if we can get a good second it makes perfect sense to pull the trigger.

He has shown he can be at least a competent QB. Howie will pull the trigger when the time is right.

December 30, 2025Dec 30 There is zero doubt in my mind that McKee could win 12 games on the Patriots with their 2025 schedule.NFL QB play is so bad right now that you should be able to get a haul for him.Assuming he lights up DC on Sunday.Like a 1 and a 2 and then a future 2 that becomes a 1 if they make the playoffs.Maybe also get a 6 and give them back a 7.
December 30, 2025Dec 30 Minnesota, Vegas, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, NY Jets, Atlanta, Miami, and probably Tampa should all want him.

One year left on his contract. He won’t agree to an extension as he won’t have a chance to start here.

I don't think there's enough there for some team to offer him big starter FA money. He may sign somewhere for a chance to compete for a starting role, but there won't be a lot of money there because he just isn't proven for any reasonable stretch of games. The Eagles have paid backup QBs good money in the past and honestly he could be extended 1 or 2 years here for more than he may make as a free agent. Things could change if he does end up starting a few games in a row and performs well. I also don't think the Eagles would get as much in a trade right now as some fans seem to think.

But I don’t think he will stay here in any event because he will want an opportunity to start or at least compete. Re trade value, I have no idea. But it seems to me relatively simple. If we can get a second or more we take it. If not - keep him for his final year.

December 30, 2025Dec 30 Get at least a 3rd for him. But he's got to go, I'm sure he wants move as well. He's probably itching at a chance to start somewhere. As soon as the season ends, send him to Miami for a starting OLineman. Since our OLine is poo. 💩
January 1Jan 1 Send him to Vegas. Out of conference, garbage team. The way NFL QB development is these days, he could have a nice career. Too many teams are too impatient with young quarterbacks now, expecting immediate success from kids who have no experience, so milk the badly run teams when you can
January 2Jan 2 Tanner has a chance to really show what he can do and build up his trade value especially against a bad football team with no direction at the moment.

But what sucks is that he'll have to show it while playing with the backups vs a starting defense. In particular, our backup OL might be abysmal. Cameron Williams seems like he's gonna start, likely at LT. Brett Toth at Center. Already have the backup RT playing. Who's gonna start at RG and LG? I guess Matt Pryor and Drew Kendall? McKee will be throwing to the likes of Cooper, Dotson, Covey, Calcaterra and Gransen.

I don’t even know who will be playing QB for the Commies. Not sure it’s going to matter anyway. The bottom line is this is a game McKee should still be able to win.
