According to an article I saw, the stadium lease is up in 7 years in 2032. Apparently you can’t get certain major events without a roofed stadium. Otherwise the Linc could be up for upgrades or they might change the venue

Thoughts?

Ill worry about it in 7 years

The fact that 2032 is only 7 years away blows my mind.

Simple answer is to build a retractable dome. Fans think it's taboo though because they're scared that it'll mean no more bad weather games

as long as they don't move the team to mexico city or some damn place...I'm good with whatever

Lurie wants a Super Bowl played in Philly. The powers that be won't consider a bid at the Linc, in an open-air stadium in the northeast. They don't want a freezing cold Super Bowl with chance of snow/ice.

Makes it likely I think that they will consider a dome. Retractable roof makes the least sense - They will close that roof as soon as there is any chance of bad weather, rain/snow, cold temps, etc. It'll only be open in Sept.-Oct. for like 4 home games at most.

They're probably right. Once the Eagles have any sort of domed stadium, There's going to be a lot more pressure to close it when weather or temperature is inhospitable than there will be to leave it open IMO. Sorry but I doubt this forum is representative of the larger Philly area population. Maybe Buffalo's solution would be a compromise. I wonder if that would be practical to add to the Linc.

You're all just guessing lol

My 2 biggest pet peeves about the LInc:

  1. The Linc is a sound sieve. All of the open sections turn the loudest and most intense fans in the NFL into one of the quietest stadiums in the NFL.

  2. Like the Vet when it was built (before my time), the Linc was one of, if not the last stadium of its kind/style to be built. It was outdated and surpassed...albeit shiny and a decent overall experience...within a year of completion.

I know fans love bad weather games, but I love home field advantage above all else. What is a better HFA...tough weather or the dome volume when the opposing offense has the ball? Winning home playoff games is more important than the visuals of playing in the snow and is more important than perfect weather for comfort and concerts. Sign me up for whatever helps more...crowd noise or the elements.

I couldn't care less where Super Bowls are hosted or what other venues are hosted in a stadium.

We had better HFA at the Vet because it was so bad that other teams dreaded going there and playing on that surface.

Unless the Linc was designed to accommodate the addition of a dome at a later date, I can't imagine it could be retro-fitted. And the fact that it's possible that the Eagles were to have three stadiums in my lifetime, says something about my age.

I couldn't possibly care less about a superbowl coming to Philly. It's not like I'd ever pay the price to go see it anyway, regardless of who's playing in it. A larger overhang on a open stadium would be nice to shield more fans from the rain/snow without having to sit in the way upper deck seats

I'd be in favor of a dome/retractable roof stadium. It would eliminate snow games and cold weather games (vs warm weather teams), but overall it gives the best environment for teams to play their best. Plus I'd love to hear how loud a dome would get with Philly fans.

I also go to 1-2 games per year and almost always go during the first half of the season when the weather is milder because if I'm dealing with the prices and traffic, I'd prefer to enjoy it in decent weather. A dome would open it up (for me) to go to late season games. I can tailgate in the cold for a while but at least I'd have a climate controlled area to actually watch the game.

Retractable roof would be ok with me.

I like the Linc. I hated the Vet. The stadium can easily last another twenty years.

But Lurie knows now is the time to cash in. They just won a Super Bowl and he wants a new stadium.

Personally, I think they should build a new open-air stadium. I know where the perfect, easily accessible location is too. The Virginia Beach SportsPlex. The current high school sized football stadium could easily be removed and a new Eagles Stadium built in it's place.

Everyone onboard with me? thumbsup

No? huh

A dome in Philly means the possibility of the SB played in Philadelphia. I know people hate the idea of a dome, but a dome in Philadelphia would almost make it impossible for opponents to come here and play, because the place would be insanely loud. I am for a domed stadium in Philly.

I like the idea of doing a retractable roof rather than a dome. The team could then opt to play in the cold/rainy weather and I don't see a reason not to considering they are used to the cold weather and harsh elements. It would still provide some home field advantage. And retract the roof for SB or events.

build a retractable dome but build it and a new practice facility outside of the city. That 4%+ city wage tax adds more than $8 million to the players pockets.

Dome stadiums are ghey

Make it retractable. Leave it open, except for NFC championship games and the Super Bowl. I mean Super Bowwwwllllzzzzzzz.

We’ve only got 7 more years left of real football. Maybe less, when NFL goes exclusively to streaming. It was great while it lasted.

i posted about this in the season ticket forum. we all received a survey and at the end, according to your choices, you were given a "discussion purposes only" price list for your seats. every single seat will be hit with a seating license. so those in the higher seats will not only have to fork up double what they are paying now per season, but also a big chunk upfront.

… for the taxpayer funded stadium.

well, like before with the linc, the chunk the team is going to get from the season ticket holders and naming rights(i believe the existing SBL seats will have to pay an increase on both the ticket and SBLs as well), i'm not sure how much the tax payers will pay.

$449.6 million of the $512 million total cost of the linc was paid by the team ($310 mil) and the naming rights ($139 mil). A decent amount from the team was from the SBLs.
