Its like no one is talking about the Eagles D. No one. Everyone just assumes that last year was a fluke. Sure we probably had one of the most stacked defensive rosters of all time last year and we lost a few guys but now we have Jihaad and Mukuba and Ty. And its not like Baun and Carter and Dejean have suddenly become nobodies. And oh yeah we still have Vic. So what is going on?

Last season was an easier schedule....

What you get is everyone rating the Eagles D as not top 5 and they won't be a top team because of Sweat, Williams, Slay, CJGJ, Moore, and the schedule.

Then Hurts will get his 2nd SB MVP and they will say "Of course he won, he clearly has the best team!"

I could not care less what people are saying about our defense now in the pre-season. Let's see what they're saying in December and January.

Look at it this way IT'S NOT THE SAME DEFENSE

Now look at it from the eyes of someone OUTSIDE the Eagles orbit. You and I won't agree with these assessments, but here's how the rest of the world sees it.

Slay is gone, and no one believes in Adoree' Jackson or Kalee Ringo. In the worls's eyes that's a minus.

CJGJ is gone and either unproved Sydney Brown or rookeie Mukuba replace him. Another minus from the outside looking in.

Barnett is gone and being replaced with a high POTENTIAL guy who has yet to prove it. At best non-Eagles folks might cal lit a wash.

Milton Williams is gone and like Barnett is being replaced by a guy with unproven potential. No one outside of us think Ojomo a 7th round pick = Williams

Both of our backup corners (Rodgers and Maddox) are gone and replaced by who? A minus for sure

A starting LB (Dan) is on IR and the backup who played in the Superbowl (Burks) isn't here. Replaced with 2 3rd day picks (Trot and Mondon).. Another minus.

You can't lose that much talent and expect folks to be touting you as a top 5 defense.

This right here.

The Defense lost half its starters. The back-ups are mostly unknown. And all the camp reports about the secondary suggest that the one side is looking like a downgrade.

There's no reason to bash the defense. After all, they haven't yet played a single snap. But there's not enough reason to brag either. Guys like BG, Swear, Willams, CJGJ, Slay, and even Rodgers made a lot of good plays last year. They were a part of that defense, and now they're gone.

This year's Defense won't be the same Defense. Too many different guys. Hopefully they'll be strong.

That was the name of Bob Marley’s first single. I agree this defense is young and exciting.

I think the concerns are fair… This defense is very likely to regress this season. We’ve lost talent and to be honest just being realistic we probably will take a bit of a step back. Now that doesn’t mean we are going to be a bad defense, we will be top half of the league I’m confident of that. But we are going to need our offense to step up more in the regular season I think.

Because they lost some guys......the media only looks at the obvious....there is very little real analysis of anything else. Draft pick to the media are just rookies who won't contribute much. Unless a free agent is a top free agent with a monster contract, they aren't considered to be valuable pieces. Young guys who are expected to develop and step up are only question marks.

The eagles defense got younger and faster.......less experienced but perhaps more talented.

I trust Fangio and his assistant coaches will coach these young guys up......just like Baun, Mitchell and Dejean last year.

But until they start playing real games, the media will underestimate the eagles defense for a while.

I’m not disagreeing or being contentious here but how do you figure they got more talented? The only real addition on defense that could and should be an upgrade is Campbell.

We shall see, they MAY be actually more talented....that really depends on Makuba, Campbell, Hunt, Smith and Ojomo (and whoever the heck is DB2). But one thing is definitely for sure....the defense along with the whole team is not as deep. That may be the real issue....

I actually like the lower expectations for the defense/team. Thinking they'll be dominant can create too much pressure, and I'd prefer if they just had their own really high expectations to meet.

Campbell absolutely. Is Smith more talented than Sweat? I’m not sure though. Hunt than BG? Hmm no. Makuba than CJGJ? Maybe not maybe not but CJGJ made a real impact we know that. And then Ojomo over Williams? Again maybe not Williams was really really good last year. There’s a lot of ifs and buts and doubts is the worry.

True...but in any way, shape or form did ANY of us think our defense would be what it was last year? I'll take "Hell No" for $1,000 Alex....
